The weather in Türkiye varies by region and season, with notable differences between coastal and inland areas.

Northwestern Türkiye

Destinations like Istanbul have mild winters and humid summers with temperatures around 30°C. From November to March, temperatures can drop to 5°C and rainfall is more common.

Central Türkiye

Cities like Cappadocia experience a continental climate which makes spring and autumn ideal times to visit. You can expect snowy winters down to -10°C and dry summers up to 35°C.

Southwest Türkiye (Turkish Riviera)

Areas such as Bodrum and Fethiye have a Mediterranean climate. From June to September, dry summer temperature can be between 25°C and 40°C. Winters are mild and wet, particularly from December to February.

Depending on the regions you're exploring, the ideal time to visit Türkiye is between March and October.

You can expect pleasant weather that’s ideal for sightseeing from April to May, and September to October. 

Summer is best for beach destinations along the coast, while winter is best for snowy landscapes in Cappadocia.

Türkiye operates on Türkiye Time (TT) or UTC+3. Like Queensland, the Northern Territory and Western Australia, Türkiye doesn’t observe daylight saving time.

How long it takes to fly to Türkiye depends on what major Australian city you’re departing from.

Australian and New Zealand passport holders require a visa to enter Türkiye, which you can easily obtain online before your trip. The e-Visa allows a stay of up to 90 days within a 180-day period.

The official currency of Türkiye is the Turkish Lira (TRY).

You can easily exchange AUD at airports, banks and currency exchange counters before your trip or throughout Türkiye. ATMs are also widely available across the country, offering a simple way to withdraw TRY directly.

Popular Turkish providers like Turkcell, Vodafone Türkiye and Türk Telekom offer SIM cards with nationwide coverage. You can easily purchase these at airports, convenience stores or mobile shops in Türkiye.

Alternatively, most major Australian networks such as Telstra, Vodafone and Optus allow you to activate international roaming that covers you overseas.

When travelling to Türkiye from Australia, you'll need a Type C or Type F power plug adapter. 

You’ll also want to check if your device supports 220V or a voltage converter may also be necessary.

The most popular place in Türkiye to ride a hot-air balloon is Cappadocia.
