The best time to visit Portugal is generally from April to October. During these months, temperatures are comfortable and you can avoid the hottest summer days. This period is also ideal for enjoying outdoor activities without heavy rain.
Portugal's weather varies by region and season, but it generally enjoys a Mediterranean climate with mild winters and warm summers.
Northern Portugal
Cities like Porto and Braga experience cooler and wetter winters from November to March. Summers run from June to September and are typically warm, with temperatures between 20°C and 30°C.
Central Portugal
In Lisbon and Coimbra, you can expect warm and dry summers from May to October. Winters are mild, averaging 10°C to 18°C with more frequent rain between November and February.
Southern Portugal
The Algarve region enjoys some of the country’s warmest weather, with dry, sunny days almost year-round. Summer days can reach 35°C while winters are mild and short, typically between 8°C and 20°C.
Portugal operates on Western European Time (WET) or UTC+0. During daylight saving, from the last Sunday in March to the last Sunday in October, Portugal switches to Western European Summer Time (WEST), which is UTC+1.
