The official currency of Spain is the Euro (EUR).
Our local guides recommend carrying local currency for most transactions, especially if you visit markets and rural areas where card payments may not be accepted.
You can easily exchange AUD at airports, banks and currency exchange counters before your trip or throughout Spain. ATMs are also widely available across the country, offering a simple way to withdraw EUR directly.
If you want to stay connected without relying on Wi-Fi, our travel experts recommend getting a travel SIM card when you’re in Spain.
Popular Spanish providers like Movistar, Orange and Vodafone offer SIM cards with nationwide coverage. You can easily purchase these at airports, convenience stores or mobile shops in Spain.
