Frequently asked questions

Cruise Only FAQs

Booking Options & Flexibility
What is the difference between a Cruise Package and a Cruise Only booking?

A cruise package typically includes the cruise itself with flights, hotel stays, land activities, and various extra perks, providing a comprehensive travel experience.

In contrast, a Cruise Only booking focuses solely on the cruise portion of your trip, excluding these additional elements. This option offers greater flexibility, allowing you to tailor your onboard experience and connecting travel plans to suit your needs.

Can I customise Cruise Only to fit my needs?
Yes, opting for a Cruise Only deal gives you the advantage of choosing your exact cabin location and number. This flexibility allows you to select a cabin that best suits your preferences, whether you prefer a location with an ocean view, proximity to certain amenities, or a specific deck level.
What should I consider when deciding between a Cruise Package and a Cruise Only booking?
Consider your plans before and after your cruise. If you need flexibility, a Cruise Only option provides that. However, if you prefer having everything arranged, including flights, hotels, and potential land activities, a Cruise Package offers peace of mind with all details taken care of.
Pricing and Payments
What is included in the price of a Cruise Only booking? Are meals and entertainment covered?
Your cruise fare typically includes onboard accommodation, main meals at the ship’s complimentary dining venues, various onboard activities, and most entertainment. Some cruise lines also offer promotional fares with added benefits like drink packages, specialty dining packages, onboard credit, and more. As you progress through your booking, any applicable promotional offers will be offered throughout the booking process. Alternatively, one of our friendly team can provide details on these promotions and help you choose the best option when booking.
Can I use a TAD voucher towards a Cruise Only booking?
Yes, all Cruise Only bookings are eligible for redemption of your TripADeal voucher. Simply enter your voucher code during the checkout process and the discount will be applied to your booking.
Are there any cost advantages to choosing a Cruise Package over a Cruise Only ticket?
TripADeal has secured discounted rates with the cruise line for both Cruise Only tickets and Cruise Packages, and we pass these savings on to our customers for all deals.
Cruise Details & Ship Information
What is the best cabin location on a cruise ship?

The ideal cabin location on a cruise ship is largely a matter of personal preference. Some guests opt for cabins near the main public areas and dining venues, while others choose quieter locations, typically at the front or rear of the ship.

We suggest reviewing the ship's deck plan and booking your cruise well in advance to increase the likelihood of securing your preferred cabin location.

What are the available cabin types that I can choose from when booking?

There is a range of cabin types to suit everyone. Please refer to the list below to help work out your preference.

Interior Cabins don’t have a window or balcony. For this reason, they are usually the cheapest option. This is a great choice if you’re planning on spending most of your time out of the room, exploring the ship.

Oceanview Cabins - come with a round porthole or a picture window. Great to let the natural light in and to wake up to a new destination outside your window in the morning.

Balcony Cabins - allow you to step out onto a private balcony and take in the ocean views or arrival into a new port.

Suites - These cabins are generally larger than the standard balcony cabins also offering a sofa or lounge for relaxing. Some of the benefits of booking these suites are inclusions like exclusive dining and relaxation areas.

French Balcony Cabins - are available on river cruises and offer a window or door that can be opened to a railing directly outside the cabin. This provides a better viewing vantage point, but you cannot step out onto a French balcony.

Please note - Some cabins may have restricted views, this will be clearly indicated when you select your cabin type.

Where can I find out about the cruise line or ship I am travelling on?

For Cruise Only bookings you can get detailed information about the ship, including deck plans, dining options, activities, and more on the Deal Offer page. If you require further information, please contact our friendly team.

When will I receive my Cruise Reference?

TripADeal will notify you via email when your cruise cabin reference is ready. This email will also include the cruise line's check-in website, allowing you to begin the check-in process, pre-book shore excursions, and make any applicable drink package or restaurant reservations.

What additional costs will there be once onboard?

Extras may include your bar bill, spa treatments, shore excursions booked onboard, anything you buy in the shops, speciality restaurant fees and gratuities.

If this is my first cruise, what do I do on day one?

Some cruise lines provide tours on the first day, offering an overview of the ship and tips on maximising your cruise experience. We recommend these tours, especially for first-time cruisers, where available.

Can I buy a drinks package if my travel companion does not want one?

If one person in your cabin wishes to purchase a drink package, it is mandatory for everyone in the cabin to have one as well. Cruise lines don’t permit a situation where only one person has a drinks package to share with others in the cabin. Additionally, certain cruise liners have implemented limitations on the number of drinks that can be ordered at once or within a 24-hour period.

Occasionally, cruise lines may offer packages for individual purchase. Please discuss with our team if you need more information on this.

Are all the restaurants onboard included in my cruise fare?

The majority of cruise lines will offer a set number of restaurants that are included in your cruise fare. There may also be specialty restaurants onboard that will incur an additional surcharge to dine at. These charges will be added to your onboard account for you to pay at the end of your cruise.

Cruise Types & Destinations
What kind of cruising experiences are there?

Cruises : With a vast selection of itineraries, cruise lines and ships available, ocean cruising offers something for everyone. From rock climbing walls and ice skating rinks to go-kart tracks, Broadway shows, and escape rooms at sea, ocean cruises offer something for every family member. With iconic destinations and thrilling shore excursions, ocean cruising delivers a convenient and hassle-free holiday experience, where everything you need is just a step away.

River cruises: A leisurely cruise along the world’s waterways offers a relaxing and luxurious way to travel. River cruising provides the convenience of docking directly in the heart of towns and cities, offering quick access to your destination. Whether you’re navigating the medieval rivers of Europe or exploring Southeast Asia’s Mekong River, each day on a river cruise unfolds with captivating new experiences.

Luxury cruises: Onboard a luxury cruise ship, you can expect fine dining, quality service, and elegantly designed suites. With smaller vessels and meticulous attention to detail, luxury cruising caters to travellers seeking an unmatched sailing experience.

Expedition cruises provide a blend of cultural enrichment and scientific exploration, featuring expert-led excursions and intimate group settings. Combining luxury, adventure, and education, expedition cruising is perfect for travellers seeking a deep connection with extraordinary environments.

Onboard Experience
Will the cruise line offer kids clubs?

Cruise lines have varying policies and activities for children. Major ocean cruise lines are highly family-oriented, providing kids' clubs for ages ranging from 2 to 17, with these clubs included in your cruise fare. It’s advisable to book your child’s spot early.

In contrast, smaller cruise lines and expedition cruises generally do not offer kids' clubs. If you're uncertain about the availability of this service on a particular cruise, contact our friendly team before making a booking.

Is there a medical centre on board if I get sick?
All cruise lines have access to a doctor/medical centre onboard. Basic medication (such as paracetamol and anti-nausea tablets) can be expensive onboard, so we advise you to have your own basic medical supplies, should you need them.
What kind of entertainment can I expect on my cruise ship?

All cruise lines will offer onboard entertainment, varying between the different cruise styles. Larger ocean cruises usually offer Broadway-style shows, onboard casinos, comedy shows, live bands and music nights.

River cruises are much smaller in size, so they typically will offer cultural performances onboard and lectures about the region you’re in. Expedition-style cruises can focus more on destination lectures and provide access to science centres to learn about the remote areas you are exploring.
