Your adventure begins in Chile, as you touch down in Santiago before transferring to Punta Arenas. Catch a charter flight to King George Island, the largest of all the South Shetland Islands. Board your luxurious Silversea ship to enjoy all-inclusive gourmet dining, superb entertainment and premium beverages. Escape to the comforts of a Vista Suite, enjoy unlimited Wi-Fi and the services of a butler.

Day 3 Punta Arenas - King George Island - Embark 6-Night Expedition Cruise

This morning, you'll be transferred from the hotel to the airport for your charter flight to King George Island. Upon arrival, you'll be met by a Silversea staff member to walk from the plane to the ship.

As the largest of all the South Shetland Islands, King George is considered the gateway to Antarctica. At just 120 kilometres from the Antarctic Peninsula and the only airport in the South Shetlands, it's the connection between “real life” and “Antarctic life”. The island was named after King George III after a British explorer discovered it in 1819. Since then the island has been claimed by both Chile (1940) and Argentina (1943), but remains part of British Antarctic Territory.

More than 10 different nations have year-round or summer-only scientific research stations on the island (considering that 90% of the island is covered by snow and ice, that is quite an achievement). Maintaining a base on the island allows membership of the Antarctic Treaty. There is even a Russian Orthodox church, with a permanent on-site priest.

The island might be home to a few international scientists, but they are very much outnumbered by the diverse wildlife that considers King George Island rightfully theirs. Adelie, Chinstrap and Gentoo Penguins all commute to and from the Antarctic Peninsula and the island. Meanwhile, Weddell and leopard seals are regular visitors and can be spotted either in the water or on the shore. Naturally, this brings a huge amount of birdlife. Skuas and southern giant petrels are regular summer residents, attracted by the warm climate (warm being a relative term as the average temperature is between 1.5˚C and -6.5˚C).

Overnight: Silversea "Silver Wind or Silver Cloud"

Meals included: Dinner

Day 4 Antarctica Sound

Few voyages ignite the imagination like a journey to one of the planet’s most remote, extreme and enchanting wilderness. Antarctica is an adventure in its purest form and only a handful of people will ever be lucky enough to experience the majestic beauty of these monochrome landscapes first-hand.

The Antarctic Sound will be one of your first encounters of this whitewash kingdom, located at the northerly tip of the Antarctic Peninsula. Taking its name from the first ship to brave the passageway back in 1902, the Sound features imposing iceberg slabs, broken away from the disintegrating Larsen Ice Shelf. Come face-to-face with stadium-sized islands of ice and meet the extraordinary birdlife that call this whitewash kingdom home. Keep an eye out as colonies of Gentoo penguins hop around and cape petrels sweep overhead, these are just some of the continent’s unique wildlife.

Two included shore excursions are provided today:
• Zodiac cruise with Silversea Expedition team
• Hiking with Silversea Expedition team

Overnight: Silversea "Silver Wind or Silver Cloud"

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 5 Antarctica Peninsula

The Antarctic Peninsula unravels upwards towards South America, reaching out to the adventurous who dare to explore this untamed realm. Stretching up from the heart of the world’s southernmost continent, the Antarctic Peninsula lies 620 miles from Tierra del Fuego. For many, it offers a first taste of the snow-blanketed landscapes and colossal ice sculptures that make up Earth’s least-explored continent. Witness cathedral-sized icebergs and blue-hued glaciers, slowly slipping from imposing locations like Hope Bay. Blanched mountain peaks cover the peninsula, and thousands of Adelie penguin pairs thrive undisturbed in this peninsula’s unique setting.

The vast peninsula is also sprinkled with research bases which are at the frontline of scientific endeavours, pushing to study and understand this unique landscape, its exceptional wildlife and the impact humans are having on this continent.

Two included shore excursions are provided today:
• Zodiac cruise with Silversea Expedition team
• Hiking with Silversea Expedition team

Overnight: Silversea "Silver Wind or Silver Cloud"

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 8 South Shetland Islands, Antarctica

The ice-coated Antarctic Peninsula forms perhaps the most accessible region of mainland Antarctica, lying 480 miles from South America. Lying close to the northwestern tip of the Antarctic Peninsula, the South Shetland Islands fall under the jurisdiction of the Antarctic Treaty, suspending claims on their sovereignty.

King George Island is the largest and most hospitable island, hosting the majority of the research stations. Some are populated all-year-round by tiny, hardy crews. Don’t be fooled though, these islands offer extraordinary adventures in one of the most remote locations on earth.

The triple peaks of Mount Foster tower above the archipelago so you’ll feel your heart pumping as you sail into the core of Deception Island’s magnificent collapsed volcano caldera. Hike the luna landscapes within, and even dip into the improbably warm, geothermally-heated waters of Pendulum Cove. Meanwhile, Elephant Island is written deep in the records as the site where Ernest Shackleton and the stricken crew of the Endurance miraculously survived a harsh Antarctic winter in 1916.

Look out for plump elephant seals and crowds of Gentoo, Chinstrap and Adelie Penguins which also call the islands home.

One included shore excursion is provided today:
• Zodiac cruise with Silversea Expedition team

Overnight: Silversea "Silver Wind or Silver Cloud"

Other important information

TOUR GUIDE VS. TOUR LEADER
Tour Guide
Often locals with intimate knowledge of an area, its culture, and history. Their role entails providing commentary, routing the tour, and seeing that people have a good time. They are a licensed, qualified expert who supplies specific information on the history, art, architecture and culture of the city/village/attraction where they are guiding the tour. The guide meets the group at the required place and leaves it at the end of the tour; they do not travel with the group.

Tour Leader
An experienced person tasked with ensuring the smooth operation of tours, as well as providing practical support to passengers throughout the whole trip. Their role primarily includes assisting with accommodation, transportation between locations, and communication with tour guides at each stop. A tour leader may provide general guidance around a city or village and offer information on the place visited on the bus. However, they are not required to have specific art, architecture, or historical knowledge. They are not allowed to provide a guided tour or commentary of a city/village/attraction once there and, if caught doing so, can be fined.

Please note: Tour leaders/guides are not a standard inclusion in all travel offers. Tour leaders/guides will only be made available when required to enhance the experience of the destination featured.

CLIMATE & AVERAGE TEMPERATURES
Santiago
Santiago, Chile, experiences warm summer weather in January and February, with average daytime temperatures ranging from 28°C to 32°C. Nights are cooler, typically between 13°C and 16°C. The city sees plenty of sunshine and minimal rainfall, making it ideal for outdoor activities. The dry climate and low humidity enhance the heat, especially in the afternoons. However, the nearby Andes Mountains provide a refreshing escape with cooler temperatures at higher elevations.

Punta Arenas
Punta Arenas, Chile, experiences cool and windy summer weather in January and February, with average daytime temperatures ranging from 10°C to 15°C and nighttime lows between 4°C and 8°C. Strong winds are common, often exceeding 50 km/h, adding a brisk chill to the air. Rainfall is minimal but possible, and the long daylight hours allow for extended outdoor exploration. Despite being summer, the weather remains unpredictable, so layering is essential for comfort.

Antarctica
In Antarctica, January and February are the warmest months of the year, with average temperatures along the coast ranging from -2°C to 5°C. Inland and at higher elevations, temperatures remain much colder, often dropping below -20°C. These months also bring nearly 24 hours of daylight, making it the peak season for wildlife activity and exploration. While conditions can be relatively mild by Antarctic standards, strong winds and sudden weather changes are common, so proper cold-weather gear is essential.

Weather
We always suggest referring to an online source for the most up-to-date weather information for your destination/s.

Adventure (and spontaneity) create some of the best travel memories. Bear in mind, your home schedules and timings might not be adhered to on tour - it's all part of the fun!

A moderate level of fitness will be required. Expect a moderate pace of touring with a focus on guided tours that may include full days with extended activity, guided city tours or nature walks. You will require a general level of fitness for unassisted navigation of stairs and inclines, longer distances with possible periods of standing when visiting sites, and walking on sloping, uneven ground or elevations. You will be responsible for your own luggage and have the ability to board all modes of transport without assistance.

Please note:
• Many areas may be inaccessible to wheelchairs or mobility scooters, where the unassisted use of personal walking sticks and other aids may be required. Although some assistance may be available, every traveller should be self-reliant during all aspects of their travel.
• It is expected that every traveller must be self-reliant and able to undertake all aspects of their own travel. Please speak to your booking agent about your personal circumstances and any assistance requirements to ensure this tour is right for you.
• If you have any concerns, please consult your healthcare provider prior to purchase/travel.

Yellow Fever
A valid international certificate of vaccination against Yellow Fever is required in many countries. You may need to present this on arrival at the airport or border crossing. Some countries will refuse entry if you are unable to present your certificate. It's also common for your home country to request a Yellow Fever certificate upon arrival. You must check with your doctor well before leaving home about the Yellow Fever requirements for the countries you'll be visiting.

Sightseeing
Please note: If entry to a site is affected by changes in operating hours or public holiday closures, your itinerary, where possible, may be adjusted, or a similar activity will be offered in its place (subject to availability).

Shopping
Shopping overseas can be a daunting and confusing experience, especially when there is a language barrier. Please be very cautious when foreign currencies and prices are involved. If paying by credit card, please pay close attention to the amount you are being charged and keep all your receipts. Do not make any purchases you are not comfortable with or feel pressured into. If you are uncertain or need assistance with the language barrier, please seek assistance from your Tour Guide/Leader. Please refer to our Terms and Conditions regarding shopping for further information.

Visas

Chile
You must obtain your visa before you arrive in Chile. The application process can be lengthy, so allow yourself enough time before your planned travel. If you arrive in Chile without a valid visa, you won't be able to pass the immigration point, and you'll be sent back to your last port of departure. You won't be able to obtain a visa at the airport or border entry point. To enter Chile, Australian citizens must obtain a visa before arrival: SAC Sistema Atención Consular - Ciudadanos. Please reach out to the Chilean consulate for any visa requirements.

Important:
• Please start arranging your visa three weeks before departure to account for any delays due to consulate operating hours.
• Visa rules are subject to change. Please check with the nearest embassy, consulate or immigration department of the destination/s you are visiting once you receive your travel documentation to ensure you have the most up to date information.
• It is your responsibility to be travel-ready and ensure that you are aware and comply with any destination or travel requirements, including the validity of all required travel documents.
• Passengers who are not Australian citizens must also check with the respective consulate or visa agency to determine what their visa requirements are and what personal identification is required.
• It is also important to note that some areas of employment, such as journalism, government authorities and charity organisations, may have additional restrictions in applying for visas. This may, in turn, affect the type of application required.

Travel insurance

Embarking on your next trip is exciting, and while you hope the unexpected does not happen, it is best to be prepared. We strongly recommend you take out travel insurance when making your booking. Whether it’s a potential medical emergency, a flight cancellation, a delayed suitcase, or an unforeseen event, it's important to ensure you're adequately protected.
