Beautifully green in every season (the source of its Emerald City moniker), Seattle is a destination that seems to have it all. Big industry, blissfully coexisting alongside small independent businesses. Top-quality seafood (courtesy of its position on the Puget Sound). A beautifully balanced blend of city parks, waterfront walks, and beaches, that set the scene for all sorts of outdoor adventures. Add to that a long-established cultural offering that includes concert halls, art galleries, and museums, and it’s easy to see why Seattle is considered by many to be the perfect place to put down roots, (even more so if you’re a fan of craft beer and coffee).

Day 5 Ketchikan, Alaska, USA

Ketchikan is just three miles long and barely ten blocks wide, but here you can be sure to find Alaska’s busiest waterfront buzzing with boat-planes, fishing boats, pleasure craft, and busy fishermen.

Once colonised by Tlingit and Haida tribes, Ketchikan is a thriving fishing town with colourful stilted houses, a rich Alaskan culture and a throng of trawlers hauling in fresh crab and salmon. Arts thrive here and museums celebrating the town’s history are abundant. Some of the best seafood you’ll sample in the Great Land will have been plucked directly from Ketchikan’s waters and served in its restaurants just hours later. A detail that only magnifies the appeal of this enchanting port call on your Alaska cruise.

While other towns have their origins firmly rooted in the region’s gold rush years, Ketchikan’s connection with its native population is still at the heart of its community. You’ll find Alaska’s largest collection of totem poles among its many welcoming attractions, along with heritage experiences expanding on the beliefs, customs and pastimes of Alaska’s earliest settlers.

Day 6 Icy Strait Point

Picture Alaska and you’ve more or less conjured Icy Strait Point. Look out for whales in the picturesque wilderness or enjoy warm hospitality and hearty food ashore. This indigenous owned cruise port on Chichagof Island offers the best of what makes this region unique - piercing blue waters, emerald green forests and a myriad of ways to enjoy the outdoors.

You may decide to spend the afternoon whale watching, join a fishing expedition or take in the scenery on a guided kayaking experience. Then there are the nature hikes, offering the chance to spot native brown bears and eagles in their natural habitat. For the truly brave, Icy Strait Point is also home to the world’s largest zip rider, which propels you over 5330 feet from a 1,330 vertical drop. It is an adrenaline-fuelled experience, perhaps not one for everyone, but definitely something you won’t forget in a hurry.

Icy Strait Point is situated just outside Hoonah, the largest Tlingit village in Alaska. Near the cruise port, you’ll also find quaint shops selling local artifacts and insightful museums expanding on local history. Along the waterfront, a smattering of restaurants are ready to treat you to the freshest crab plucked from Icy Strait Bay, an Alaskan delicacy you won’t want to miss. A port call to Icy Strait Point means a choice between whether to spend your time on land, sea or in the air. The island is a natural playground; its waters are as dense with whales as its forest is with brown bears.

Day 7 Glacier Bay National Park (Scenic Cruising)

With snow-capped peaks, abundant wildlife and shimmering glaciers, it’s no wonder Glacier Bay National Park is the crowning jewel of Alaska’s Inside Passage.

Spanning 3.3 million acres as part of a 25-million-acre World Heritage Site, a Glacier Bay National Park cruise reveals some of the planet’s most remarkable tidewater glaciers. There’s so much to take in on a Glacier Bay National Park cruise, it’s hard to know where to begin. Towering mountains, gargantuan icebergs and majestic glaciers stretch as far as the eye can see, disappearing onto the horizon in every direction. It’s a thrilling sight to experience from the deck of a cruise ship, or snuggled under the warmth of a blanket on your stateroom balcony, as you silently watch the world go by.

The park is home to over 1,000 glaciers, the majority of which nestle in the surrounding mountains, connecting land to sky like nature’s skyscrapers. Soaring to 15,000 feet, Glacier Bay’s ranges are the highest coastal peaks in the world; their abundant snowfall offering the perfect breeding ground for glaciers to take shape. One of the highlights of visiting Glacier Bay National Park is watching the prolific calving of these shimmering ice giants. Towering hundreds of feet above the water, as well as stretching a hundred feet below, huge jagged pinnacles routinely break off in thunderous explosions, resulting in flotillas of icebergs. It’s an awe-inspiring spectacle.

Cunard's Queen Elizabeth

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 8 Hubbard Glacier (Scenic Cruising)

The Hubbard Glacier is the largest tidal glacier in North America, formed over centuries, where nature, not man, is King. Only by cruising alongside it can you appreciate the majesty of its colossal scale. It’s a sight quite unlike anything else, drawing the curiosity of visitors keen to experience one of the natural world’s most humbling creations. This phenomenal natural wonder is a sight to behold; a gargantuan glacier of ice, 76 miles long and over 2000 feet deep in parts. It is the largest tidewater glacier in North America and yet just 350 feet of its mass is visible above water. The bulk remains hidden beneath the surface, faced with a 400-year wait to breach the tideline; the exact length of time it takes for the ice to traverse the glacier’s body and meet air for the first time.

This is your chance to get close to one of Earth’s majestic giants of slow-moving ice.

Cunard's Queen Elizabeth

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 9 Juneau

Beneath an ice field that never melts, on a waterway that never freezes, Juneau is the unusual and disarmingly beautiful capital of Alaska, and the nearby Mendenhall Glacier is a not-to-be-missed attraction..

Despite its status as Alaska’s capital, Juneau’s urban area spans just 14 square miles, but its appeal far exceeds its city limits. Frequently cited as Alaska’s most scenic city, Juneau is nature’s playground, and what a playground it is. Waters abound with humpbacks and orcas, forested trails lead to snow-ensconced mountains, and majestic eagles often circle overhead. The town that kick-started Alaska’s gold rush is rich with treasures of all varieties, from native Tlingit history and excellent seafood to an abundance of outdoor pursuits. It’s little wonder that most of Juneau’s residents arrived for a short stay and decided never to leave.

Cunard's Queen Elizabeth

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 10 Haines

Soaring peaks and temperate rainforest add to this city’s infinite charm. From historic forts and sculpture gardens to native art and Tlingit history, Haines is a celebration of Alaska’s culture and heritage. Located at the top of one of the world’s longest fjords, Haines occupies an area of natural beauty so picturesque you’ll be reaching for your camera at every opportunity. Soaring peaks, sweeping forests and expansive lakes add to the city’s charm, while local distilleries, Tlingit culture and wildlife encounters offer just a taste of what you’ll discover in port.

Haines unlocks scenery quite unique to this part of the world and you’ll find no shortage of ways to take it in. Take the opportunity to join guided mountain climbs and nature walks to glacier trekking, sea kayaking and flightseeing, the possibilities for outdoor adventures in Haines are far reaching. Close to the port you’ll find Fort William H. Seward, the last of 12 military forts built during the Klondike Gold Rush and named after the man who secured Alaska’s purchase from the Russians. While many of the officer’s residences have been turned into private housing, the once military hospital is now an arts centre and information board impress insightful nuggets about the fort’s historical significance.

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 11 Sitka

Sitka is a hidden beauty on the west coast of Baranof Island in southwest Alaska. Towered over by snowy mountains in the distance, it has previously been known as the Indian River Park and Totem Park. A city that appears to have sprung up in the most unlikely of locations, Sitka is one of Alaska’s most picturesque port calls. Its location celebrates everything that makes this otherworldly US state unique: snow-encrusted mountains, densely forested wilderness and intensely sapphire waters that radiate with glass-like shine.

Sitka enjoys a blended history as diverse as its scenery. Russian, Tlingit and American settlers have all imprinted on the city. Art and culture thrive as richly as Pacific salmon here, and while small compared to other Alaskan communities, Sitka boasts countless treasures for visitors to admire.

Bouzouki music seeping out of taverna windows. A wander around Piraeus will no doubt offer up a whole host of curiosities that beg a second look.

The city has long been an integral part of Greece, serving Athens since the 5th century BC. Remnants of its significance in the Ancient Greek empire remain, and yet the buzz of modernity in the air is unmistakable.

Day 37 Heraklion, Crete, Greece

Located on the north coast along the Sea of Crete, Heraklion is famed for its rich tradition and historical significance that has armed the city with great charm for generations. A place where the old is cherished and the new is welcomed, Heraklion is a Greek city like no other. With an exciting mix of traditional and modern appeal, there is much to discover in Heraklion - the centre of culture and Crete’s capital and largest city.

Much of Heraklion is defined by the Venetian period when Crete was ruled by The Republic of Venice, and the distinct harbour is no exception. The Venetians built the port during the 14th century and the unique architectural style of the port, juxtaposed against many modern developments, reflects and preserves the city’s notable history.

Adding to the city’s historical charm, the old lighthouse, built during the 16th century, welcomes every guest at the entrance of the port. For over 500 years, Heraklion Port has served the city and transformed itself into one of Crete’s most popular tourist attractions. Recognised for its lively atmosphere, sunset views, and cultural significance, your holiday to Heraklion begins the moment your feet plant on Greek turf.

Katakolon is an attractive port set against a backdrop of rolling mountains, giving way to the Ionian Sea and separating the ocean from the Gulf of Kyparissia. From Katakolon, visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site and ancient wonder Olympia, with extensive and well-preserved ruins that include a stadium and temples dedicated to the gods Hera and Zeus. Step back in time to almost 3,000 years ago, where ancient glory awaits at Olympia: the birthplace of the Olympic games. The marble starting blocks where 20,000 spectators once stood to watch the Olympians are still visible. The eternal flame of Attis casts its unwavering gaze over the site, and today sends off the torch on its journey.

Katakolon has been a port for a long time, and it was initially built to allow the transportation of goods to other major European ports. A rail link was completed between Katakolon and Pyrgos in 1881, and remnants of the old town can still be seen in the old warehouse buildings along the backstreets. Olympia is an unmissable site to witness on your Greek cruise. Atmospheric, eerie and fascinating, you can easily spend a day wandering these ancient ruins and soaking up every relic of the past that still remains.

Embarking on your next trip is exciting, and while you hope the unexpected does not happen, it is best to be prepared. We strongly recommend you take out travel insurance when making your booking. Whether it’s a potential medical emergency, a flight cancellation, a delayed suitcase, or an unforeseen event, it's important to ensure you're adequately protected. Supplier Fees
In the event the tour package you have purchased is unable to proceed, and/or a Travel Supplier is unable to fulfil the tour due to external circumstances (Limitation of Liability e.g. a Force Majeure event), there may be a fee or amount of money that is withheld by our Suppliers and is unrecoverable. This may be due to non-refundable airline tickets, cancellation penalties with cruise cabins or unrecoverable payments with our land/accommodation partners. If refunds are not available from Suppliers, we will endeavour to obtain a travel credit on the best terms available and communicate these outcomes to you. In the event we are unable to obtain a refund or travel service credit, or part thereof, this cost is passed on to the customer as a Supplier Fee.
