Your trip begins in this beautiful city on the west coast of Norway. What began as a small village was developed by King Olav Kyree in 1070 AD and is now Norway’s second largest city. The majestic peaks that famously surround the city give Bergen its nickname, “The City of Seven Mountains”.

Day 4 Begin 14-Night Norway & Svalbard Cruise - Bergen, Norway

Today, begin your 14-night voyage of the Norwegian coast to Svalbard, a frozen land of calving glaciers, iceberg-flecked fjords, and hardy animals, such as walruses, blue whales and polar bears.

At the appropriate time, make your own way to the Jektevik Terminal for check in. Check in opens at 10:30 and closes at 13:30.

Before you board MS Trollfjord, visit Hurtigruten's comfortable guest lounge at the Bergen Terminal. Here, you can talk to staff about securing a spot on any optional excursions still available. Once you've been welcomed aboard, meet the ship’s Coastal Experience Team, who will be your hosts and guides to the Norwegian coastline and Svalbard. Get acquainted with your shipmates and take some time to get comfortable in your new home-away-from-home.

Day 5 Åndalsnes, Norway

Located along the Isfjord, Åndalsnes is a picturesque coastal town, home to about 2,000 people. The literal highlights of Åndalsnes are the mountains that tower over the town. Experience the Norwegian concept of friluftsliv – a love of the outdoors – through a variety of optional activities, such as hiking to Rampestreken viewpoint. For an easier way to take in the sights, sit back for a relaxing ride on the Romsdal Gondola or travel the winding Trollstigen Pass by bus. Whichever activities you choose, this day will bring you the best views of the Romsdalsfjord and surrounding peaks.

Overnight: Hurtigruten Norway's MS Trollfjord

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 6 Træna, Norway

Træna is an archipelago that sits along the Helgeland coast at the edge of the Arctic Circle, 33 nautical miles northwest of the mainland. Made up of around 500 islands, islets, and skerries, only four are inhabited year-round. Spend the afternoon in one of Norway’s oldest fishing communities. If weather permits, you might be able to enjoy such activities as hiking and biking, or even island hopping, with a large population of Sea Eagles, birdwatching is another activity you won’t want to miss. For a truly authentic experience, step into the age-old shoes of a Norwegian fisherman, and cast a line under the summer sun.

When it’s time to leave in the evening, take some time to rest onboard and unwind. Cross the Arctic Circle as you continue heading north, commemorating the moment with a little Norwegian ceremony.

Overnight: Hurtigruten Norway's MS Trollfjord

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 7 Reine (Lofoten), Norway

Today, explore the famed Lofoten Islands. Watch for the steep mountains rising from the sea as you approach from the south in the morning.

Dock in Reine, an important, picture-perfect fishing village since 1743. This is one of the most-photographed landscapes in all of Norway, where red-painted rorbuer cling to a string of islands beneath sharp mountain ranges reflected in the waters below. Not far to the south of Reine, at the western tip of the Lofoten archipelago, you’ll find Å, one of the best-preserved traditional fishing villages in Norway. You can visit it on an optional excursion. At the heart of this tiny village is the Norwegian Fishing Village Museum, that covers the importance and development of fishing in Lofoten over the last 250 years.

Overnight: Hurtigruten Norway's MS Trollfjord

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 8 Tromsø, Norway

Tromsø is northern Norway’s urban Arctic hotspot, boasting impressive architecture, hip restaurants and the world’s northernmost university. Calling into Tromsø on the way to Svalbard follows in the footsteps of history. Most explorers and sailors on Arctic expeditions would embark from or return to the city.

Your ship will aim to dock here in the morning, giving you a whole day to explore this historic Arctic city and its surroundings. Take your pick from a number of optional excursions. Learn more about the culture and polar history of Tromsø on a city walk, or take a scenic bus tour. You can also visit the striking Arctic Cathedral, which has an impressively large multi-coloured stained-glass window. Or ride the Fjellheisen Cable Car up Storsteinen Mountain for exceptionally beautiful views of the city, mountains and fjords.

Overnight: Hurtigruten Norway's MS Trollfjord

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 9 Honningsvåg, Norway

Around mid-morning, arrive at Honningsvåg, the northernmost city in mainland Norway. There are several optional excursions to choose from while here. These could include taking a bus, riding a quad bike to the North Cape, or a refreshing hike with your Coastal Experience Team.

Honningsvåg is the gateway to North Cape, the northernmost point of Europe. The plateau stands 307 metres above sea level, and is just over 1,600 kilometres south of the geographical North Pole. Take a moment to gaze out across the sea from atop the soaring cliffs, watching the waves crash against the rocks below.

Sailing away from Honningsvåg, enjoy dramatic views of the plateau from the sea. The ship heads further into the Barents Sea, leaving mainland Norway’s coast far behind.

Overnight: Hurtigruten Norway's MS Trollfjord

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 10 Scenic Cruising - Bjørnøya (Svalbard), Norway

The southernmost island of the Svalbard archipelago, Bjørnøya sits just past the halfway point between mainland Norway and Spitsbergen. Get your camera ready as you might be able to capture Little Auks, Puffins, Black-legged Kittiwakes, and Northern Fulmars flying over dramatic cliff tops and steep slopes, alongside many other seabird species. Contrary to its name, which means “Bear Island”, the only native mammals are Arctic foxes. The island was named when a polar bear was spotted swimming in the waters nearby, a rare sight this far south.

Overnight: Hurtigruten Norway's MS Trollfjord

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 11 Longyearbyen (Svalbard), Norway

Today, arrive at the Svalbard archipelago and make your way up to Spitsbergen, the largest of the three main islands. Magnificent brown and green mountains rise and ripple up from the High Arctic tundra while rivers of snow-melt trickle through the valley plains, glistening under the summer sun. Take a moment to just be here, now, in Svalbard. You’re at a latitude more than 78°N and under 1400 kilometres from the North Pole itself. The air of this Arctic desert is fresh and pure, and temperatures in summer average between 0°C - 8°C, thanks to a warm northern branch of the Gulf Stream.

In early afternoon, you'll find Longyearbyen nestled on the banks of Isfjord. This is the biggest settlement in Svalbard and a hub for adventure travellers, as well as scientists and engineers attached to local research projects, like the famous Global Seed Vault. Spend some time strolling around the town, admiring its collection of galleries, pubs, restaurants, brewery and the notable North Pole Expedition Museum.

You’ll also have optional excursions to pick from that bring you into the awe-inspiring landscapes surrounding Longyearbyen. Explore by e-bike, open boat, or on a wagon pulled by dogs. You could go on a fossil hike, or have a wilderness experience at Camp Barentz. And if you’ve ever wanted to try dog sledding without snow, this is your chance.

Overnight: Hurtigruten Norway's MS Trollfjord

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 12 Ny-Ålesund (Svalbard), Norway

At the tip of Brøgger peninsula, on one of Kongsfjord’s shores, is Ny-Ålesund. Like Longyearbyen, it hosts many scientific stations and during the summer, there are over a hundred researchers based in the town, representing 20 glaciology and climate institutes from more than 10 countries. Wander around what is one of the northernmost settlements in the world, drop in at the local museum and souvenir shop, or send a far-flung postcard back to friends and family from the small post office.

If you weren’t up in time to enjoy the impressive views of Kongsfjord on the way to Ny-Ålesund, make sure you’re on deck as the ship continues its journey. It’s one of the largest fjords in the area, with an entrance guarded by two colossal creaking glaciers that regularly deposit ice into the fjord. This stretch is also a good place to look out for walrus basking on the shores and for many different species of migrating birds, including puffins, king eiders, pink-footed geese, and guillemots. Arctic fox and Svalbard reindeer can sometimes be spotted on land while the white beluga whale has been known to surface in the waters here too. If you’re very lucky, you might even see a polar bear prowling the coast for bearded and ringed seals.

Overnight: Hurtigruten Norway's MS Trollfjord

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 13 Cruising

Say farewell to Svalbard and to Spitsbergen and sail south back to mainland Norway. On board the ship, use the day to relax. If skies are clear, enjoy some summer sun out on deck and keep on the lookout for whales, dolphins, and porpoises. For some fascinating insights into local history and wildlife, catch a lecture delivered by the Coastal Experience Team. Enjoy the sumptuous food and drinks on board, courtesy of our Norway’s Coastal Kitchen concept that features the finest, most flavoursome, local Norwegian produce. You can also curl up with a good book in the lounge or chat with new-found friends in the bar while reminiscing together about your favourite experiences of the voyage so far.

Overnight: Hurtigruten Norway's MS Trollfjord

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 14 Senja (Torsken), Norway

After a day at sea, arrive back to mainland Norway.

Your first stop of the day is Tromsø, to drop off any cargo from Svalbard and pick up cargo bound for ports to the south, before continuing south to Senja. The island is one of the country’s largest, and northern Norway’s fast-rising star destination, as you’d expect for a place ranked among CNN’s top ten most beautiful islands in the world. Often proudly described by locals as a ‘mini Norway’, Senja has a concentration of diverse landscapes that mirror different parts of the Norwegian coast, from the sandy beaches, turquoise waters and lofty mountains of its northern coast to the rocky coastline and pine forests of southern Senja and Ånderdalen National Park. You'll find rolling hills and birch forests to the east.

Disembark in the charming fishing village of Torsken and explore by bus, e-bike, on foot, or take to the fjords on a wildlife safari on one of the optional excursions.

Overnight: Hurtigruten Norway's MS Trollfjord

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 15 Stokmarknes & Lofoten Islands, Norway

Start the day with a few hours in Stokmarknes, a historic town with a special significance to Hurtigruten. It’s the birthplace of Hurtigruten Norwegian Coastal Express. It’s a fitting place for the Hurtigruten Museum, where you are immersed in the atmosphere of a different era on the retired 1956 ship, MS Finnmarken, proudly encased in glass on the waterfront (charges apply).

After Stokmarknes, sail via Raftsundet and Trollfjord to Lofoten. The rest of the day is all about exploring this breathtaking archipelago. Hailed as one of the most spectacular areas in all of Norway, you’ll understand why as you see its jagged green cliffs rise dramatically out of the ocean, climbing high into the sky like giant teeth.

The beating heart of the archipelago is the town of Svolvær where your ship will be based. There are shops and restaurants to enjoy, and hours can be spent exploring and getting to know the town yourself. To experience the mountains, islands and villages around Svolvær, choose from a variety of handpicked top Lofoten optional excursions. Try fishing, kayaking, or sit back and enjoy the incredible scenery on foot or on a bus tour.

Overnight: Hurtigruten Norway's MS Trollfjord

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 16 Brønnøysund, Norway

The ship continues south and reaches the middle of Norway's coast. The Helgeland coast is a well-known stretch, full of characteristic mountains, which have inspired many myths and folklore.

Dock in Brønnøysund, which has a beautiful marina and a neo-Gothic stone church from 1870. Use the time to explore the town, or take part in optional excursions such as a scenic trip from a RIB boat.

Further on from Brønnøysund lies the wonderful Torghatten. The first thing you notice at Torghatten is the hole, which goes right through the middle of the mountain. At an easy pace, it takes about an hour to reach the hole in Torghatten on an optional excursion.

Overnight: Hurtigruten Norway's MS Trollfjord

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 17 Ålesund & Hjorundfjord, Norway

The ship will make a brief stop in the town of Ålesund, known for its Art Nouveau architecture and picturesque position on a peninsula below Mount Aksla. If you’re joining the optional overland excursion to Hjørundfjord and Sæbo, this is where you disembark, or you can explore the town on foot.

Near to Ålesund, cutting through the peaks of the Sunnmøre Alps, some 1,700 metres high, is magnificent Hjørundfjord. Its picture-perfect position embedded in the Sunnmøre Alps means it is the area’s hidden gem and a secret from most other ships. On the banks of one of Hjørundfjord’s branches is the idyllic village of Sæbø. Tender ashore here and join an optional bus tour or hike excursion to explore Sæbo’s charming streets, fjord and mountain scenery, nearby villages, and local culture.

If you left MS Trollfjord to go on an excursion at Ålesund, this is also where you’ll rejoin the ship. Celebrate with a farewell dinner on your last night aboard ship.

Overnight: Hurtigruten Norway's MS Trollfjord

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 18 Disembark Cruise - Bergen, Norway

Today, arrive back in Bergen in the morning in time to disembark the ship. Say a fond farewell to your fellow passengers and to the crew of MS Trollfjord, and once off the ship, make your own way to your centrally located hotel in Bergen. Enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.

Overnight: Clarion Hotel Bergen or similar, Bergen, Norway

Meals included: Breakfast

Day 19 Bergen, Norway - Australia (or New Zealand)

At the appropriate time, make your own way to the airport for the flight home. Take home fond memories of the North Cape, Helgeland, Lofoten, Senja, Hjørundfjord, crossing the Arctic Circle, Tromsø, Bjørnøya, Longyearbyen and Ny-Ålesund.

Cruise

Hurtigruten's MS Trollfjord
Freshly refurbished in 2023, MS Trollfjord is a homage both to Norwegian nature and Hurtigruten's 130-year heritage sailing the Norwegian coast. Locally sourced natural materials such as wood and stone feature prominently throughout the ship’s furnishings, reflecting the beauty of the fjords you will sail through. The style of décor is classic, timeless, and unique in the fleet. You’ll notice details and flourishes that evoke a sense of nostalgia, harking back to a golden era of exclusive small-ship sailing.

Dining Experience:
The produce and culinary heritage of Norway’s coast is at the heart of your experience on board MS Trollfjord. New ports mean new suppliers to work with, new ingredients to play with and new stories to tell. The ship’s peerless menus, cocktails and food courses are inspired by them all, as well as archive menus and age-old Norwegian preservation techniques.

MS Trollfjord’s strikingly reimagined three restaurants and bar offer an exciting flavour of Norway’s past, present and future. Each one embraces traditional preservation methods that have been tried and trusted by Norwegians through 1,000 Arctic winters, such as drying, fermenting and salting. On board, you can eat dry-aged beef served by a chef with a story about the meat’s provenance, drink beer made from water sourced in Trollfjord, and learn all about the distinctly Nordic spirit aquavit.

Best of all, the journey from fjord or field to fork is short but deliciously sweet. As we sail, you’ll pass the very fjords that gave us our fish, the mountains that grew our herbs and the slopes that reared our lamb.

Main Dining Restaurant: Flora
MS Trollfjord’s main restaurant, Flora, is inspired by Norway’s edible herbs, berries, mushrooms, flowers, fruit and vegetables. This incredible treasury of produce influences every part of your dining experience here, from the herb-infused mayonnaises to the petals and scrolls of the distinctly Norwegian Rosemaling folk art design that unfurls across the restaurant’s décor.

Depending on what’s in season, you could try dishes such as lightly smoked Arctic char, plant-based Wellington with sugar kelp confit Trøndersopp from our own kelp farm, or flavoursome wild game enriched by time spent grazing on berries, herbs and flowers.

Dine at Flora for self-service breakfast, lunch buffets, and à la carte dinners. Seating is open on the day of departure, but fixed for the rest of your voyage. If you would like to change your seat, please contact the Restaurant Manager on board. Flora is also the venue for the gala dinner towards the end of your voyage.

Brasserie Árran
Brasserie Árran is Hurtigruten's way of showing our respect and gratitude to the Sámi people and everything they have done for Norway. Árran is a northern Sámi word for the fire at the heart of a lavvo (a temporary dwelling used by the Sámi people for thousands of years). It’s a place for people to gather and share stories, which is exactly what we hope you’ll do in Brasserie Árran. The restaurant decor’s use of dark wood, leather and rough-hewn stone creates a warm and rustic feel that reflects the hearty food on the menu.

Here, you can dine on traditional dishes with a modern twist such as bidos (a Sámi reindeer stew), souvas (sliced smoked reindeer meat) with lingonberry aioli, or pickled herring on rye bread with cured egg yolk.

Árran is open for lunch and dinner. Seating is open, so no reservations are required.

Specialty Dining Restaurant: Røst (Fees may apply)
Inspired by the ancient fish bank of Røst in the Lofoten Islands, this fine-dining restaurant is a homage to the produce that helped established Norway: fish. Røst’s menu is based on the flora and fauna that flourishes beneath the ship and along the coast.

Alongside the stockfish that Norway’s economy – and heritage – was built on, your dishes could include salmon or reindeer as well as more unexpected ingredients such as seaweed, kelp, Arctic pearls (a vegan roe) and sea urchins. The resident sommeliers are on hand to help pair each dish with the perfect wine.

Please Note: Suite guests can choose to dine in Røst for all meals, including a daily, Norwegian-inspired afternoon tea complete with delectable macarons, scones, cakes, and sandwiches, washed down with a glass of sparkling wine. For dinner, Suite guests must make a reservation directly at the restaurant.
Cabin guests can also upgrade to dine at Røst through the app, directly at the restaurant or through the Restaurant Manager.

1893 Bar
Your culinary experience on MS Trollfjord extends to the 1893 Bar too. Settle down in a comfortable chair behind the huge windows on the two-storey observation deck and take your pick of drinks laced with the flavours and remarkable stories of the Norwegian coast. Perhaps a Nordic-themed cocktail made with berries picked along the coast, beer brewed with water from Trollfjord, spirits distilled with glacial water, or something from the wide selection of Norwegian aquavit – including our very own. There’s no better place to watch that extraordinary scenery slip by. And it is not just about the drinks. Every day between 15:30 and 16:30, guests can enjoy an afternoon treat and tuck into a mini buffet of fresh fruit and sumptuous cakes.

Please note: Opening hours may vary due to weather, ports and activities. Guests can find updated opening hours on the daily programme onboard.

Life Onboard MS Trollfjord:
Each day’s entertainment programme is guided by a different theme based on the destination ahead.

In between ports, you can be as active as you choose. Expect expert-led food tastings and thought-provoking presentations by your Coastal Experience Team that you can watch in person or livestream from the comfort of your cabin.

Regular photography workshops reveal tips for shooting the perfect image, from capturing the Northern Lights to zooming in on polar wildlife. When you feel confident, you can hire camera equipment on board and practise what you learnt on your next onshore excursion.

But if you’d rather simply watch the astounding scenery roll by, that’s fine too. Relax in the panoramic sauna or take a seat with a glass of our exclusive aquavit next to the floor-to-ceiling windows of the bar.

Onboard currency: Norwegian Kroner (NOK)
MS Trollfjord operates a cashless system on board and accept Visa, MasterCard, and Diners Card. You can also use your cabin card on board to order snacks, drinks, meals, excursions, and guided hikes. The balance is then settled at the end of your voyage.
