Day 6 Ushuaia, Argentina

Arrive: 10:00 - Depart: 21:00

No city on the planet has a more southerly latitude. As a result, the sun shines for 18 hours during summer, providing ample opportunity to view the mix of glaciers, forests and sea, all framed by Mount Martial to the west and Mounts Olivia and Cinco Hermanos to the east. There’s a magnificent wealth of history and culture to discover in Ushuaia. The town was formerly a missionary base, penal colony, and naval base but has increasingly become a significant tourist destination with many attractions, including restaurants, sightseeing, and casinos. You could explore Tierra del Fuego National Park on a day hike through the wilderness or along the coast and glacial lakes. The End of the World Museum offers a beautiful glimpse into the history and culture that shaped this city and includes collections of artefacts and pieces from the first expeditions and the indigenous people who once inhabited the region. Savour authentic Argentinian specialties with the freshest seafood, like king crab, seabass, ceviche, grilled octopus, or the ever-popular, slow-cooked Fuegian lamb, and delicious regional wines.

Please note: This port is accessed by tender boats. Boarding and disembarking tender boats may involve steps and uneven surfaces. While cruise lines strive to provide easy access, accessibility options vary at different tender ports. Passengers with mobility concerns are encouraged to ask about specific arrangements and consider their needs when participating in tendering activities.

Day 7 Cape Horn, Chile (Scenic Cruising)

Tierra del Fuego, Land of Fire, is the most isolated place in the Americas, and Cape Horn is its southernmost point. These craggy cliffs and windswept shores are stark, rugged beauty personified, creating a dramatic setting for the collision between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.

Overnight: Celebrity Cruises - Celebrity Equinox

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 8 Schollart Channel - Paradise Bay - Gerlache Strait, Antarctica (Scenic Cruising)

Schollart Channel, Antarctica:
Journey to the far reaches of the world with a Schollart Channel cruise. Experience the spectacular wildlife that inhabits the great white South Pole and breathe in the exhilarating air. With Anvers Island to the southwest and Brabant Island to the northeast, take in the mesmerising sights of massive ice flows, humpback whales, waddling penguins, leopard seals and more in their natural and somewhat extreme element. You will surely leave with unforgettable memories and pictures as you cruise through the Schollart Channel near Antarctica.

Paradise Bay, Antarctica:
This name aptly reflects the stunning beauty you'll find here, just as the clear waters beautifully reflect the spectacular mountains, such as Rojas Peak, Bryde Peak, and the Petzval Glacier. Within these waters, we may see Minke whales feeding and Gentoo penguins curiously observing us from the rocky shores.

Gerlache Strait, Antarctica:
Several geographical anomalies around this channel make these waters among the most plankton-rich in the world. You'll likely see a profusion of whales feeding in the rich ecosystem, a sight you'll remember.

Overnight: Celebrity Cruises - Celebrity Equinox

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 9 Elephant Island, Antarctica (Scenic Cruising)

This tiny island in the Weddell Sea of Antarctica plays a role in one of seafaring history's most legendary exploits. When the brave crew of the Endurance, led by intrepid explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton, was trapped in the ice during a 1914 polar expedition, they took refuge on this island until help arrived. And, even though they spent the entire winter waiting for rescue, not a single crew member was lost.

Located in the Southern Ocean near the outer reaches of the South Shetland Islands, Elephant Island has claims from not only Argentina and Chile, but also the United Kingdom. Brazil also has two shelters here that contain up to six researchers that work during the summer months.

Check out the island's wildlife on your Antarctica cruise. The island is covered with elephant seals, hence the name Elephant Island. At Cape Lookout, a bluff on the southern coast where various penguins (chinstrap, gentoo, and macaroni) call home. Other birds of note include sheathbills, cape petrels, and stormy petrels; it's also a great place to spot the elephant seals and Antarctic fur seals. The truly adventurous can explore the moss colonies, which are thought to be thousands of years old. The moss bank is not terribly far from where the Shackleton party was marooned, and is considered one of the oldest living things in the world. Your cruise to Antarctica will truly be an experience of a lifetime.

Please note: This port is accessed by tender boats. Boarding and disembarking tender boats may involve steps and uneven surfaces. Other important information

TOUR GUIDE VS. TOUR LEADER
Tour Guide:
Often locals with intimate knowledge of an area, its culture, and history. Their role entails providing commentary, routing the tour, and seeing that people have a good time. They are a licensed, qualified expert who supplies specific information on the history, art, architecture and culture of the city/village/attraction where they are guiding the tour. The guide meets the group at the required place and leaves it at the end of the tour; they do not travel with the group.

Tour Leader:
An experienced person tasked with ensuring the smooth operation of tours, as well as providing practical support to passengers throughout the whole trip. Their role primarily includes assisting with accommodation, transportation between locations, and communication with tour guides at each stop. A tour leader may provide general guidance around a city or village and offer information on the place visited on the bus. However, they are not required to have specific art, architecture, or historical knowledge. They are not allowed to provide a guided tour or commentary of a city/village/attraction once there and, if caught doing so, can be fined.

Please note: Tour leaders/guides are not a standard inclusion in all travel offers. Tour leaders/guides will only be made available when required to enhance the experience of the destination featured.

CLIMATE & AVERAGE TEMPERATURES
Buenos Aires:
In Buenos Aires, January and February mark the peak of summer, bringing warm and humid weather to the city. During January, temperatures typically range from 20°C to 30°C, making it the hottest month of the year, often accompanied by high humidity levels. February remains warm, with average temperatures slightly lower, ranging between 19°C and 29°C, while humidity stays elevated. Throughout these months, the city experiences plenty of sunshine, along with occasional afternoon rain showers or thunderstorms, creating a mix of sunny and rainy summer conditions.

Antarctica:
In Antarctica, January is the peak of summer, and temperatures vary significantly depending on the location. Along the coast, where most research stations are situated, temperatures typically range from -2°C to 8°C. This is the warmest time of the year, with milder conditions and extended daylight hours.
In the interior, temperatures are much colder, often remaining below -20°C, even during the summer. Although conditions are more favourable for travel and exploration during this month, strong winds and rapidly changing weather can still be common.

FLIGHTS
Seat Selection & Frequent Flyer Points:
We do not arrange seat selection. It is essential to highlight that some airlines do not allow pre-selected seats. We strongly suggest you contact the airline directly with seating allocation requirements and/or arrive at the airport earlier to arrange your seating. While we do not add frequent flyer member details to bookings, you can do this directly with the airline once you have your flight information.

Visas

Argentina
On an Australian passport, you can stay for up to 90 days without a visa, but you'll need evidence that you intend to depart the country within the 90 days, for example:
• a return or onward ticket
• a valid passport
• travel/medical insurance
Officials may also ask for proof of accommodation and evidence that you have enough money or a credit card to cover your trip.

Chile
Australian passport holders visiting Chile for tourism purposes must apply for a single or multiple tourist visas. Visas must be lodged through the SAC CIUDADANOS portal only: https://tramites.minrel.gov.cl/
If your travel includes transiting through Chile, you should contact the nearest Embassy or Consulate of Chile to confirm if you'll need a visa.
If you transit in Chile without a visa and miss your connecting flight, you won’t be able to pass the immigration point. You'll be required to remain airside and not leave the airport until a new onward flight has been arranged. Australians have previously been required to remain airside for several days due to missed flight connections.

Uruguay
Australian passport holders are visa exempt for a stay of up to 90 days. The traveller must hold a passport valid at least 6 months beyond the period of intended stay with one blank visa page.

Important:
• Please start arranging your visa three weeks before departure to account for any delays due to consulate operating hours.
• Visa rules may have changed since Covid-19. Some countries and airlines may require you to obtain an additional visa before arrival. Please check with the nearest embassy, consulate or immigration department of the destination you're entering.
Please note:
• It is your responsibility to be travel-ready and ensure that you are aware and comply with any destination or travel requirements, including the validity of all required travel documents.
• Passengers who are not Australian citizens must also check with the respective consulate or visa agency to determine what their visa requirements are and what personal identification is required.
• It is also important to note that some areas of employment, such as journalism, government authorities and charity organisations, may have additional restrictions in applying for visas. This may, in turn, affect the type of application required.
