Day 1 Broome, Western Australia

Today, make your own way to the accommodation at Oaks Broome Hotel for check-in at 14:00.

For those arriving before the check-in time, you will be able to store your luggage at no additional cost. Conveniently located just a 7-minute walk from Broome Town Beach and a 5-minute stroll to the town centre, Oaks Broome Hotel serves as an ideal base to explore the stunning natural wonders and adventurous activities that Roebuck Bay has to offer. Important Information: This package is a camping trip—please refer to the packing list in the "Other Important Information" section. The itinerary includes activities like clambering over rocks, wading through water by torchlight, walking on rocky creek beds with uneven footing, and ascending or descending gorges. A reasonable level of fitness, the ability to swim, and being sure-footed are necessary for participation. Information regarding the length of hikes and conditions is available on the relevant itinerary day.

From Day 7 to Day 17, the journey is conducted in a custom-built, 21-seat 4WD truck equipped with a PA system and built-in storage (no trailers involved). These sturdy, remote-area vehicles are designed for comfort, featuring standing room, adjustable air-conditioning vents, reclining seats, map pockets, and footrests. It is important that when booking a 4WD outback adventure in the Kimberley, you understand that the roads we travel on can be heavily corrugated. This is an activity-focused tour, and participation is required. You’ll have the chance to assist with daily tasks, like setting up camp, preparing meals, and cleaning dishes. None of these tasks are demanding, however many hands make light work. Most find that participating adds to the experience, making you feel like more of an explorer than a tourist. A sleeping bag is required for this trip. Guests can either bring their own or purchase one directly from the operator during the tour for $50 in cash.

After the tour, you have the option to keep the sleeping bag or donate it to local Indigenous communities. The sleeping bag can be purchased on Day 7 of this itinerary. Luggage restrictions apply for this tour from Day 7-Day 17 due to limited space in the vehicles. Please pack in a small, soft bag (suitcases are not suitable) with a maximum weight of 15kg. Any excess luggage can be stored at your accommodation in Broome for collection upon return. For the seaplane and overnight stay on the Horizontal Hotel Houseboat (Day 2 & 3 of this itinerary), there is a strict 5kg limit. Full luggage can be left at the hotel in Broome during this portion of the tour.

Please note that the houseboat is not a licensed venue, so any alcohol must be BYO, and it will count towards the 5kg limit. Additional important information will be noted in the itinerary on the relevant itinerary days.

Overnight: Oaks Broome Hotel or similar

Meals included: None

Day 2 Horizontal Falls Overnight Tour

This morning you will check out of the hotel and at approximately 11:00, a coach will pick you up from Broome and take you to Derby Airport.

Keep in mind there’s no lunch stop on the way, so be sure to have an early lunch or pack something to enjoy during the drive. From Derby, you’ll hop on a thrilling low-level seaplane flight that takes you straight to the heart of the Horizontal Falls. Once there, get ready for an exciting power boat cruise through the breathtaking gorges, followed by a relaxing afternoon cruising the calm, turquoise waters of Talbot Bay. You’ll even have a chance to swim and snorkel in the crystal-clear water! In the evening, settle in on a floating houseboat, where you’ll enjoy sunset drinks on the deck and a tasty dinner featuring local Barramundi. Finish the night with some stargazing before retiring to your private, air-conditioned cabin for a peaceful night’s sleep.

What to Pack: Overnight tours have a maximum hand luggage allowance of 5kg per person on the seaplane, with only soft bags permitted. Please bring any personal items or medications you may need during the trip, along with sun protection, a refillable water bottle, camera, swimwear, and towels. The pontoon is not a licensed venue, as such you are welcome to bring a small amount of BYO alcohol, which can be chilled onboard. Please note that this must be included in your 5kg hand luggage allowance. Recent safety protocol updates require guests to wear closed-in shoes on the seaplane. Additionally, when filling out your passenger information form, please ensure the spelling of each name is correct, as flights are booked using this information. Any incorrectly filled-out information may incur a re-issue fee. A pre-departure waiver will be emailed directly to you from the operator of the seaplane adventure one week prior to departure and must be completed and returned.

Weight Restrictions: When booking this package, you will need to fill out a passenger information form, including each passenger's weight. Accurate weight information is essential to ensure the safe and balanced loading of the aircraft. The maximum weight limit for each passenger is 120kg. Passengers will be weighed at boarding, and the operator reserves the right to refuse boarding and cancel your booking if the actual weight exceeds the declared weight by more than 2kg. In these cases, no refunds will be issued. If your weight changes after booking, you must notify TripADeal at least 30 days before the tour's start to discuss possible options. If the change cannot be accommodated, the booking will be cancelled. If you inform us less than 30 days before the tour and your weight increase cannot be accommodated, it will be treated as a booking cancellation, and no refunds will be given.

Day 7 Broome - Tunnel Creek - Windjana Gorge

Get ready for an adventure as you journey through the stunning and remote landscapes of the Kimberley region. Your guide will share captivating stories about the local history, culture, and environment along the way. After a morning tea break by the picturesque Fitzroy River, you’ll stop by the iconic Derby ‘Boab Prison Tree’ before hitting the famous Gibb River Road. In the afternoon, delve into the fascinating Tunnel Creek, a remarkable 750-metre cave system carved through the Napier Range.

Here, you’ll explore magnificent stalactites and hidden caves, and encounter a variety of wildlife. Learn about the legend of Jandamarra, an Aboriginal freedom fighter who famously used this tunnel as a hideout in the late 1800s. Don’t forget to take a refreshing dip in a serene waterhole to cool off! As night falls, you’ll set up camp under the dazzling Kimberley night sky.

Accommodation Tonight’s accommodation is camping under the stars at Windjana Gorge. You'll set up your own twin-share dome tent—it's a breeze and takes about three minutes! Swags complete with fitted sheets, pillows, and pillowcases will be provided. On-site amenities include hot showers and flush toilets to ensure your comfort.

Driving Distance: Approximately 6.5 to 7 hours, this does not include stopping for toilet breaks, morning tea, lunch or walks. The longest uninterrupted drive time is 2.5 hours (from Derby to Windjana Gorge - there will be no bathrooms available between these locations).

Hiking Information Tunnel Creek. Class 5 walk – 2 kilometres return
The trail is about 2 kilometres return and you need to be surefooted to negotiate rocky uneven surfaces. In the dark, your torch may light up small bats roosting on cave walls and glowing freshwater crocodile eyes. It can be a little unnerving for some. If you lose your nerve, hang around the spectacular cave entrance and ponder the exploits of outlaw indigenous leader, Jandamarra, who hid around here from the police troopers during the 1890s. Some of the interpretive signage tells the Jandamarra story in vivid detail. Bandilngan (Windjana Gorge) National Park - 700 metres, National park in Wunaamin Miliwundi Ranges You may see fruit bats and corellas roosting in the trees along the water's edge. Take a while to check out the marine life forms fossilised in the limestone of the gorge walls. They're fascinating! The traditional owners of this area are Bunuba Aboriginal people. Bandiln͟gan (Windjana Gorge) is a highly spiritual place for the Bunuba people. The powerful Wandjina creation spirits reside in the area.

Overnight: Bandilngan Campground (Windjana Gorge) or similar

Meals included: Lunch; Dinner

Day 8 Windjana Gorge - West Kimberley Gorges - Manning Gorge

The Napier Range is over 350 million years old and home to the geological wonder of Windjana Gorge. Beneath gorge walls rising 90 metres, we’ll spend the morning searching for freshwater crocodiles, local birdlife, and indigenous bush tucker. By mid-morning we head off to Dalmanyi (Bell Gorge), a hidden highlight of the West Kimberley. This idyllic retreat, considered amongst the most beautiful in the area, boasts cascading waterfalls and crystal clear pools formed over millions of years – an easy place to while away a few hours! Accommodation Enjoy two nights in the comfort of our own private safari camp at Manning Gorge. The camp features large tents on raised platforms with twin stretcher beds, mattresses and our own sheltered kitchen area. Nearby shared ablutions have hot showers and flush toilets.

Driving Distance: Approximately 4 to 4.5 hours, this does not include stops.
Please note: The condition of the Gibb River Road impacts the driving distance, potentially adding an additional 1 or 2 hours.

Hiking Information: Dalmanyi (Bells Gorge)
2.4 kilometres Grade 4 marked trail, leading through a dry river bed to the top of the Dalmanyi waterfall. Here you'll be rewarded with spectacular views and the chance to cool off in the inviting waters. For a more challenging trek, continue on the Grade 5 Dalmanyi Falls Trail, requiring three points of contact, leading to the base of the falls—a deep pool nestled amid majestic sandstone walls.

Overnight: Manning Gorge Campground

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 9 West Kimberley Gorges

Spend the day swimming in paradise as you explore the refreshing waters of Galvans Gorge, adorned with vibrant water lilies, and the breathtaking Adcock Gorge. Amid the rugged beauty of Manning Falls, enjoy a swim in the crystal-clear pools, unwind by wandering streams, and discover local wildlife as you take a dip in the serene waterfall pools. As night falls, we’ll camp by a tranquil billabong on Mt Barnett Cattle Station for an unforgettable overnight experience.

Hiking Information Adcock Gorge – 1.2 kilometres Grade 4 Walk.
Adcock Gorge, Wunaamin Miliwundi Ranges Conservation Park. The rocky and uneven walking trail commences from a designated parking area, requiring some boulder clambering along the way. Despite its short distance of just over 600 meters one-way, the gorge surprisingly sees fewer visitors. However, for those who make the stop, Adcock Gorge offers a wealth of natural beauty. The deep pool serves as an inviting spot for a refreshing dip, with steep rock walls providing a striking backdrop. Depending on the timing after the wet season, a waterfall cascades into the pool with varying intensity. Luxuriant patches of ferns adorn shady areas, while water lilies grace a pool further downstream

Galvans Gorge – 2 kilometres
The easy 2 kilometres return trail leads past picturesque lily pools and lush vegetation to a stunning multi-tiered waterfall-fed pool.

Manning Gorge – 6 kilometre Grade 4 Walk.
The 5.6-kilometre return trail starts at the Manning Gorge Campsite. The trailhead is right on the Manning River and you have to cross it, swimming, wading or both (this is 20 metres each way). Accessing the gorge entails an adventurous 3-kilometre (5.8-kilometre return) hike, marked by rock cairns, red discs, and arrows. Starting at the campground, hikers cross Manning Creek before continuing. The trail goes through uneven, rocky terrain getting progressively harder near the end. Most people of reasonable fitness should do the Grade 4 trail. The trail offers scenic views but involves uneven terrain, rock scrambling, and an incline toward the end. Essential items include drinking water and a hat due to the lack of shade.

Overnight: Manning Gorge Campground

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 10 El Questro Wilderness Park

Today’s journey up the Gibb River Road continues to the iconic El Questro Wilderness Park where we’ll spend two nights in a private campsite, allowing for free time to join one or more of the many activities on offer. Accommodation Stay in permanent tents at El Questro Station which has twin beds, lighting and there are nearby bathrooms

Driving Distance: Approximately 6 hours, this does not include stops along the way for morning tea and lunch.

Hiking Information Emma Gorge – 3.4 kilometres
This track can be a little challenging at times with some rock scrambling but all in all, this is a short trip for such an excellent spot. Don't forget your swimmers as this is a fantastic spot to cool off.

El Questro Gorge Walk – 6.8km return (optional) 6.8 kilometres return to MacMicking Pool. Grade 5 from Halfway Pool.
Experienced bushwalkers only. A hike along a narrow spring-fed creek that leads you through palm and fern-clad escarpments to a small swimming hole in a lush rainforest setting. The surrounding cliff faces and scree slopes are up to 1800 million years old and known as Wunaamin Miliwundi Sandstone. Erosional forces, such as watercourses, have carved out El Questro Gorge by following a geological fault line. Terrain is a rough track with loose rocks and wet crossings offering a lot of shade.

Overnight: El Questro Wilderness Park or similar

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 13 Kununurra & Lake Argyle

Enjoy a leisurely day exploring Lake Argyle, one of the largest man-made lakes in the southern hemisphere, featuring over 70 islands. Overnight: Lake Argyle Resort or similar

Day 14 Purnululu National Park: Bungle Bungles

Travel south along the Great Northern Highway to reach Purnululu National Park, home to the awe-inspiring Bungle Bungles. The next two nights will be spent at a private Bungle Bungle Safari Camp, situated right in the heart of the park. This stay allows for a full day to explore the wonders of this extraordinary area, especially the renowned Bungle Bungle domes. These unique orange and black "beehive" formations were shaped by rivers over 20 million years. Surprisingly, they remained largely unknown until the early 1980s and the region was designated as a national park in 1987.

Accommodation In the heart of Purnululu National Park, stay in eco safari tents at the Bungle Bungles Safari Camp. The camp features modern facilities, a covered dining deck with panoramic views and an open-air campfire around which you can relax beneath a sparkling Kimberley night sky: chatting, star-gazing and sharing the adventure with like-minded travellers.

Driving Distances: Approximately 6-7 hours, however the dirt track (Spring Creek Track into the Bungle Bungles) is only about 50 kilometres, so the journey can take approximately two hours. The dirt road is winding and corrugated, which may extend travel time, but the rugged terrain adds to the adventure as you head towards this geological marvel.

Overnight: Bungle Bungles Safari Camp or similar

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 15 Purnululu National Park: Bungle Bungles

We explore Echidna Chasm, known for its towering Livistonia Palm trees, and take a short walk into the stunning Cathedral Gorge, where towering rocks create a natural amphitheatre. Or enjoy a bird-eye view of the beehive domes with an optional scenic helicopter flight to put it all into perspective.

Optional Activity: Bungle Bungle Domes and Red Rock Gorge 30-minute Flight.
This 30-minute flight is brimming with more impressive natural features and landforms than you could imagine. The sandstone massif of the Bungle Bungle Range is almost 99 times the area of Uluru. Take in the remarkable hidden red rock gorges of the north-west tip and Horseshoe Valley before soaring over Piccaninny Gorge, Cathedral Gorge and the show-stopping striped Bungle Bungle Domes that have contributed to the listing of Purnululu National Park as one of Australia’s World Heritage areas. Hiking Information Domes Trail – Purnululu National Park Grade: Easy short walk. Class 3 Walk Terrain: Sandy path. An extension of the Cathedral Gorge trail to the beehive domes. This is the most accessible of the walks in this area, with a 1-kilometre return trail meandering its way through the red and black striped domes, allowing visitors to get a sense of these ancient formations. Cathedral Gorge.

Purnululu National Park Grade: Moderately easy 3-kilometre walk.
Class 4 Walk Terrain: Sandy path, stepping over rock ledges, around waterholes and past eroded potholes to an incredible natural amphitheatre carved out of sandstone. Some steps with a handrail. The walking into Cathedral Gorge is mostly firm and easy underfoot. There are a couple of ladders and a few places where you have to be careful not to slip on the sandy-sloped surface.

Echidna Chasm. – Purnululu National Park Grade: Moderate. Class 4 Walk Terrain
Rocky Creek bed to the base of a spectacular 200-metre-high chasm. Steps to viewing platforms and boulders to climb over. This is a pretty short walk – about 2 kilometres return – but it’s easily a favourite among visitors. Starting from the Echidna Chasm car park you head up what looks like a dry creek bed. Some people find the boulders, ranging from tennis ball size to much larger, difficult to walk on. It can be tough on the ankles so make sure you wear supportive boots. If you don’t like ladders and clambering over big boulders you don’t have to get right to the end.

*Today's activities will be based on the group's ability, the heat and other factors.

Other important information

Weight Restrictions
When booking this package, you will need to fill out a passenger information form, including each passenger's weight.

Luggage restrictions
For the seaplane and overnight stay on the Horizontal Hotel Houseboat (Day 2 & 3 of this itinerary), there is a strict 5kg limit. Full luggage can be left at the hotel in Broome during this portion of the tour. Please note that the houseboat is not a licensed venue, so any alcohol must be BYO, and it will count towards the 5kg limit.

TOUR GUIDE VS. TOUR LEADER
Tour Guide
Often locals with intimate knowledge of an area, its culture, and history. Their role entails providing commentary, routing the tour, and seeing that people have a good time. They are a licensed, qualified expert who supplies specific information on the history, art, architecture and culture of the city/village/attraction where they are guiding the tour. The guide meets the group at the required place and leaves it at the end of the tour; they do not travel with the group.

Tour Leader
An experienced person tasked with ensuring the smooth operation of tours, as well as providing practical support to passengers throughout the whole trip. Their role primarily includes assisting with accommodation, transportation between locations, and communication with tour guides at each stop. A tour leader may provide general guidance around a city or village and offer information on the place visited on the bus. However, they are not required to have specific art, architecture, or historical knowledge. They are not allowed to provide a guided tour or commentary of a city/village/attraction once there and, if caught doing so, can be fined.

Please note: Tour leaders/guides are not a standard inclusion in all travel offers. Tour leaders/guides will only be made available when required to enhance the experience of the destination featured.

CLIMATE & AVERAGE TEMPERATURES
The Kimberley
There are three seasons in the Kimberley region, with the dry season the best time to visit, average temperatures range from 16°C to 30°C. It generally goes from April/May to September, a period which is followed by the so-called ‘build-up’, where high humidity and temperatures prevail before the ensuing ‘wet’. The Kimberley dry season is the tourist season, when hotels are fuller and booking ahead is recommended. It has the ideal climate for the most part, with several months of generally rain-free, blue skies and pleasant temperatures at night.

COACH TOUR
Meals
For meals not included, the tour leader (when available) will offer assistance with reservations, suggestions and directions to local restaurants. It is your responsibility to notify us of any dietary requests/requirements.
Please note: We will do our best to meet your requests/requirements; however, we cannot guarantee that we will always be able to.

Luggage
You will be responsible for all your personal belongings whilst on tour. You must carry your own luggage from the vehicle to the hotel room and back to the vehicle. The driver will assist with the uploading and unloading of bags from the vehicle.

OTHER
Mobility
If you require wheelchair access please contact our friendly sales and service team to inquire on your behalf.

Fitness Level Required
A moderate to active level of fitness will be required.
Moderate is described as: Expect a moderate pace of touring with a focus on guided tours that may include full days with extended activity, guided city tours or nature walks. You will require a general level of fitness for unassisted navigation of stairs and inclines, longer distances with possible periods of standing when visiting sites, walking on sloping, uneven ground or elevations. You will be responsible for your own luggage and have the ability to board all modes of transport without assistance. Please note: Many areas may be inaccessible to wheelchairs or mobility scooters, where the unassisted use of personal walking sticks and other aids may be required. Although some assistance may be available, every traveller should be self-reliant during all aspects of their travel.

Active is described as: Expect an active pace of travel where the focus is on adventure with no limitations. You will need to be self-reliant, physically fit and healthy to participate in fast-paced travel, extended walking/trekking over several hours/days, navigate steep steps, slopes, rugged and uneven terrain, varying weather conditions, remote locations and higher elevations. You will be responsible for your own luggage and able to board all modes of transport without assistance. This tour is typically inaccessible to wheelchairs, mobility scooters and those requiring assistance while travelling.

Please note:
• It is expected that every traveller be self-reliant and able to undertake all aspects of their own travel. Please speak to your booking agent about your personal circumstances and any assistance requirements to ensure this tour is right for you.
• If you have any concerns, please consult your healthcare provider prior to purchase/travel.

Sightseeing
Please note: If entry to a site is affected by changes in operating hours or public holiday closures, your itinerary, where possible, may be adjusted, or a similar activity will be offered in its place (subject to availability).

Shopping
Shopping overseas can be a daunting and confusing experience, especially when there is a language barrier. Please be very cautious when foreign currencies and prices are involved. If paying by credit card, please pay close attention to the amount you are being charged and keep all your receipts. Do not make any purchases you are not comfortable with or feel pressured into. If you are uncertain or need assistance with the language barrier, please seek assistance from your Tour Guide/Leader. Please refer to our Terms and Conditions regarding shopping for further information.
