Day 8 Darwin, Northern Territory

Arrive: 08:00 Depart: 18:00

Surrounded on three sides by the turquoise Timor Sea, the Northern Territory’s capital is closer in both distance and temperament to Southeast Asia than it is to most of Australia’s major cities. The lifestyle here is tropical, which means a relaxed atmosphere, balmy weather, fabulous fusion food and vibrant outdoor markets.

This cosmopolitan city has around 140,000 residents, including some 50 nationalities. After heavy bombing in World War II and a disastrous cyclone in 1974, Darwin has been largely rebuilt, and it's modern and well planned. In the downtown area you'll find everything from great shopping to a crocodile park. You can trace the region's dramatic history at innovative museums and gallery-hops to see indigenous art. After your sightseeing stroll, have a late lunch at one of the many excellent restaurants. The food options range from authentic Malaysian dishes like laksa, a spicy noodle soup, to a plethora of fresh seafood—mud crab, barramundi and more.

You may find it hard to leave this laid-back lifestyle, but there's much more to see close by. Darwin is the gateway to two famous national parks, Kakadu and Litchfield, as well as the spectacular Aboriginal-owned Tiwi Islands. Make sure you take the time to 'go bush,' as they say in Australia—that is, get out of town and relax. There's no better place to do it than in this glorious part of the country.

Day 11 Bali (Benoa), Indonesia

Arrive: 07:00 - Depart: 22:00

Indonesia is made up of more than 13,000 islands, but even with all that competition, Bali manages to stand out. Beautiful temples and shrines of all sizes are spread across the island, tucked down narrow alleyways, hidden within the jungle or serenely presiding over scenic locations, like the dramatic Pura Tanah Lot atop a rock formation just off Bali’s western coast.

Bali is well known for its arts — traditional music and dance, painting, wood and stone carvings, silver jewelry and ikat & batik textiles. The island’s artistic center is the village of Ubud, and art markets and boutiques carry beautiful Balinese pieces that you might want to take home.

When it comes to dining, whether you’re craving a burrito or satay, you can find a restaurant that serves it. Don’t leave the island, however, without sampling Balinese cuisine. Local cooking, which reflects Chinese and Indian influences, uses blends of aromatic spices to season grilled meats (though not beef—Bali is an island of Hindu culture in mostly Muslim Indonesia), fresh seafood, rice and vegetables with delicious results.

Monkeys frolic around the caves, and it is a popular spot for rock climbing enthusiasts. Paintings and scenes of Hindu Gods can also be seen in the Ramayana Cave.

After the visit to the caves, journey back to City Centre, and continue the tour with a visit to Kuala Lumpur heritage sites, the Sri Mahamariamman Temple, a stroll around Chinatown (and its wet market, time permitting), Independence Square with the colonial buildings and Jamek Mosque. Explore Penang Hill and visit the magnificent Kek Lok Si Temple temple.

In the morning you will be picked up from your hotel, and accompanied by our local guide, you will drive up to the largest Buddhist temple in Malaysia, the Kek Lok Si Temple, also known as the Temple of
Supreme Bliss. Enjoy a breath-taking sight of the Gigantic Goddess of Mercy Bronze Statue overlooking the entire temple precinct and its vicinity, then take a stroll up the seven-story
Pagoda, which houses over 10,000 Buddha statues. From here, head to Penang Hill, the highest peak on the island, house of the oldest British hill station in the region. Enjoy a ride on the
Funicular Train up the hill, where you’ll be amazed by the magnificent panoramic view of Georgetown, Mainland and the Straits of Melaka. While you’re at it, try spotting the Indonesian
coastline of the island of Sumatra to the West, or the island of Langkawi and its islets to the North. At the end of the tour, transfer back to the hotel.

Optional Activity: Hands-on Cooking Class
Approximately: 09:00 - 13:00
Explore the Tropical Spice Garden and put into practice your culinary experience during the cooking class, while learning how to master a few dishes of the exotic local cuisine. In the
morning, make your own way to the The Tropical Spice Garden, arriving no later than 09.00 am. Enjoy a guided tour of the Spice Terraces, where your local guide will brief you on the
herbs available in the garden, most of them used daily in their kitchen. A brief pit-stop where you can relax over a cup of herbal tea sweetened with stevia leaves before starting the

You will be picked up from your hotel in the late afternoon by a driver and driven to a private harbour to board a magnificent yacht before hitting the open seas. Evening is the best time of the day for sailing as the sun lies low in the sky and the temperature is pleasantly fresh. Immerse yourself in the peace and tranquillity of the Andaman Sea while relaxing to the gentle rocking of the yacht, spot flying fish popping out to play on the sea's surface and look for majestic eagles circling the skies for prey. Don't forget to wear your swimsuit, pack a towel and a change of clothes so that you jump in the sea and cool off in the 'saltwater jacuzzi', a strong net hung off the yacht, allowing you to sit and enjoy the sea as the yacht moves through the water. To complete the experience, a ravishing barbecue buffet and salad bar will be served to accompany your drinks. At the end of the day, you'll sail back to the harbour and continue by land to your hotel.

Day 24 Langkawi - Day at Leisure

Enjoy another day at leisure or choose to join in on an optional tour.

Optional Tour: Langkawi Mangrove Boat Trip
Experience the excitement of the Mangrove Boat Trip through the Kilim River. You will be picked up from your hotel in the morning for the drive to the boat. It will initially take you along the Kilim river with dense green mangroves on one side and gigantic limestone rocks on the other rising from the river bed. Some of these limestone rocks that look like mountains have been formed some 500 million years back. The mangroves serve to protect the shoreline from the sea and prevent soil erosion by creating a barricade. The Bat Cave is located quite close to the Kilim Jetty. Other than the impressive sight of large colonies of bats hanging from the ceiling and flying all over your head, Bat Cave showcases stunning formations of limestone. Keep looking at the mangrove where monkeys, snakes, eagles (we don't feed them), otters, mud-skippers, and other unique birds or monitor lizards can be found. After that, head to a local floating restaurant where you will get a lovely view of the surrounding water and landscapes as you dine. Then at the end of the tour, you will be transferred back to the hotel.

Please note: It is recommended to wear swimwear under short pants and a T-shirt, sandals or flip-flops, hat or cap, to bring a towel and enough sun protection.

Other important information

TOUR GUIDE VS. TOUR LEADER (Itinerary 2 only)
Tour Guide
Often locals with intimate knowledge of an area, its culture, and history. Their role entails providing commentary, routing the tour, and seeing that people have a good time. They are a licensed, qualified expert who supplies specific information on the history, art, architecture and culture of the city/village/attraction where they are guiding the tour. The guide meets the group at the required place and leaves it at the end of the tour; they do not travel with the group.

Tour Leader
An experienced person tasked with ensuring the smooth operation of tours, as well as providing practical support to passengers throughout the whole trip. Their role primarily includes assisting with accommodation, transportation between locations, and communication with tour guides at each stop. A tour leader may provide general guidance around a city or village and offer information on the place visited on the bus. However, they are not required to have specific art, architecture, or historical knowledge. They are not allowed to provide a guided tour or commentary of a city/village/attraction once there and, if caught doing so, can be fined.

Please note: Tour leaders/guides are not a standard inclusion in all travel offers. Tour leaders/guides will only be made available when required to enhance the experience of the destination featured.
