Explore the many Heysen Walking Trails around the property, where you can walk up to the Mount Lofty Summit and enjoy views over Adelaide City. Alternatively, visit the Mount Lofty Botanical Gardens, located directly in front of the property, and stroll through their beautiful flora and fauna.
As the afternoon cools down, relax in front of one of the 15 fireplaces within Mount Lofty House with a glass of wine, read a book, or challenge someone to a game of chess.

Day 4 Adelaide Hills to Kangaroo Island by Helicopter

After breakfast, prepare for your helicopter transfer to Sea Dragon on Kangaroo Island. Please be in the reception area of Mount Lofty House with your luggage 20-25 minutes before your transfer time. The team will take your luggage and escort you to the helipad.

Transfer times are at 09:00, 11:00, or 13:00. Your specific time will be included in your final documents.

Enjoy a private 60-minute helicopter experience from Mount Lofty House to Sea Dragon, Kangaroo Island, as you take in the stunning Fleurieu region. Relax and marvel at the breathtaking aerial views of the Fleurieu, Backstairs Passage, and Kangaroo Island. Prepare for an unforgettable adventure that will give you a newfound appreciation for the remarkable landscapes of South Australia.

Upon landing, you will be met by a representative from Sea Dragon. With 250 acres of breathtaking coastal estate, a stunning secluded beach, and ocean views from all boutique accommodations, Sea Dragon Kangaroo Island offers unrivaled beauty and tranquility.

If you arrive early, you can explore the local surroundings on one of the beautiful nature walks from the property, including Cape Willoughby Lighthouse and the spectacular Devil’s Kitchen, which is an easy 15-minute walk. The lighthouse, the oldest in South Australia, once played a crucial role in the state's shipping trade, guiding ships safely through the treacherous waters of Backstairs Passage. Devil’s Kitchen, located just southeast of the lighthouse, is a striking formation in the granite cliffs, especially impressive when large southerly swells crash into it during a storm.

Exclusively for Sea Dragon guests, there's a charming walk (5 minutes down, 10 minutes up) to the beach at Pink Bay, situated at the base of the property and just a short stroll from all accommodations. Picnic baskets can be provided for a delightful lunch on the beach.

To begin your three-night experience perfectly, warm yourself in front of the indoor fireplace in the restaurant, or relax by the outdoor fire pit while sitting among kangaroos and wallabies under the Milky Way. Enjoy their secret recipe of Kangaroo Island mulled wine or hot cider.

This evening, indulge in a two-course dinner paired with a selection of local Kangaroo Island and South Australian beverages, including beer, wine, cider, and non-alcoholic options.

Today, embark on the Sea Dragon Full Day Nature Tour, a journey filled with breathtaking highlights, including Seal Bay Conservation Park, a private lunch in a converted sheep shearing shed, Flinders Chase National Park, Cape Du Couedic Lighthouse, Admiral’s Arch, and Remarkable Rocks.

Your adventure begins as you depart Sea Dragon, travelling west across the island to your first stop, Seal Bay Conservation Park. This park is home to the endangered Australian sea lion, with only an estimated 9,000 left. Seal Bay hosts the second-largest colony of this species. Walk through the untouched sand dune system and along the pristine beach with your experienced guide or a knowledgeable Park Ranger for about an hour, learning all about these beautiful mammals.

Keep an eye out for Rosenberg Goannas basking in the sun as we return to the vehicle and head towards Flinders Chase National Park, pausing for lunch at a converted sheep shearing shed with an open fireplace for cooler days. This private property is a haven for koalas and is the farm that supplies mushrooms and marron for our Sea Dragon menus.

Continue toward Flinders Chase, witnessing the rejuvenation of native bush flora following the devastating bushfires of 2019. Spend the afternoon exploring other well-known attractions in the park, including Cape Du Couedic and Admirals Arch, where you can spot Long-nosed fur seals relaxing or playing in rock pools. Keep an eye out for whales during the winter months!

After experiencing the magnificence of Admiral’s Arch, visit Remarkable Rocks for views of the rugged coastline in this diverse national park. The stunning rock formations and distinctive red rocks are a photographer’s dream. Learn about the early maritime history of this wild environment while spotting other native animals like echidnas, kangaroos, and various birds and reptiles.

Return to your accommodation around 17:30-18:00, allowing time to freshen up before enjoying dinner in the dining room with fabulous views over Pink Bay and the Backstairs Passage. Look out for Tammar wallabies on your way back.

Other important information

TOUR GUIDE VS. TOUR LEADER
Tour Guide:
Often locals with intimate knowledge of an area, its culture, and history. Their role entails providing commentary, routing the tour, and seeing that people have a good time. They are a licensed, qualified expert who supplies specific information on the history, art, architecture and culture of the city/village/attraction where they are guiding the tour. The guide meets the group at the required place and leaves it at the end of the tour; they do not travel with the group.

Tour Leader:
An experienced person tasked with ensuring the smooth operation of tours, as well as providing practical support to passengers throughout the whole trip. Their role primarily includes assisting with accommodation, transportation between locations, and communication with tour guides at each stop. A tour leader may provide general guidance around a city or village and offer information on the place visited on the bus. However, they are not required to have specific art, architecture, or historical knowledge. They are not allowed to provide a guided tour or commentary of a city/village/attraction once there and, if caught doing so, can be fined.

Please note: Tour leaders/guides are not a standard inclusion in all travel offers. Tour leaders/guides will only be made available when required to enhance the experience of the destination featured.

CLIMATE & AVERAGE TEMPERATURES
Adelaide
Adelaide experiences a Mediterranean climate, characterised by mild, wet winters and warm, dry summers. It is the driest of all Australian capital cities. In winter (June to August), the average maximum temperature ranges from 15°C to 16°C, with average minimum temperatures between 7°C and 8°C. Spring (September to November) is a vibrant season, marked by blooming flowers and flourishing wildlife.

Mount Lofty
Located in the Adelaide Hills, its cool climate means vibrant whites are the lifeblood of the region with punchy expressions of sauvignon blanc and fine restrained chardonnay being the two traditional white varieties. However, with its unique topography that creates several microclimates, the region is also perfect for pinot gris and pinot grigio. Summer temperatures can range between highs of 23-26°C and lows of 12-14°C, winter temperatures can range between highs of 12-13°C and lows of 6-7°C.

Kangaroo Island
Kangaroo Island enjoys cool, mild winters (June-August), characterised by very low humidity. Spring (September-November) and autumn (March-May) are true shoulder seasons, where days can feel like winter, summer, or something in between. The island has never experienced snow, and slight frosts are rare, occurring only in the central part of the island.

McLaren Vale
McLaren Vale is one of the most geologically diverse wine regions in the world with unique interactions between geology, soils, elevation, slope, aspect, rainfall, distance from the coast and macro-climatic differences all contributing factors. Summer temperatures can range between highs of 27-28°C and lows of 15-17°C, winter temperatures can range between highs of 15-16°C and lows of around 9°C.
