Day 18 Gibraltar

Arrive: 09:00 - Depart: 18:00

With Spain to the north and Morocco to the south, Gibraltar is the famous promontory dominating the narrow entrance to the Mediterranean.

In ancient times Gibraltar was regarded as one of the two Pillars of Hercules, marking the western limits of the known world. Then, as a prelude to the Moorish conquest of Spain in 711, Gibraltar was seized and used as a stronghold base. This Moorish influence has permeated much of Spain, even the name Gibraltar, converted to Spanish from the Arabic 'Jebel Tariq', or Tariq's Mountain, was named after the Moorish commander Tariq ibn Ziyad who built the first fortification.

Commonly known as 'The Rock,' Gibraltar is full of natural caves and manmade tunnels composed of limestone and grey marble, is geographically part of the Iberian Peninsula. Gibraltar has been under British control for over two centuries due to its strategic location, and welcomes visitors to discover its historical sites, magnificent views, beautiful beaches and duty free shops.

Day 21 Bonifacio (Corsica) , France

Tendered: Arrive: 08:00 - Depart: 18:00
(Times subject to weather conditions)

The scent of wild maquis carries you to aromatic Corsica, birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte. Set off the southeastern coast of France and separated from Sardinia by the Strait of Bonifacio, the rugged island was fought over for much of its millennia-long history; a particularly contentious period of Genoese rule led to a short-lived independent state before it became a French territory in 1769. Corsica was an infamous haven for smugglers and pirates; indeed, bands of brigands were still roving there as late as the last century. Today, the island shows its wild side in its jagged mountains, steep gorges, and forests of native Corsican pine. The town of Bonifacio is a medieval beauty and particularly striking to behold from the sea, with its imposing citadel precariously perched atop the white limestone cliffs. Look for the legendary Staircase of The King of Aragon cut directly into the rock face; if physically able, climb the 189 steps for spellbinding, 180-degree views. Bonifacio’s cobblestone streets and piazzas are abuzz with craft shops, bars and brasseries, while fine-sand beaches and hidden pirate coves are plentiful.

Please note this port is accessed by tender boats. Boarding and disembarking tender boats may involve steps and uneven surfaces. While cruise lines strive to provide ease of access, accessibility options can vary at different tender ports. Passengers with mobility concerns are encouraged to inquire about specific arrangements and consider their individual needs when participating in tendering activities.

Day 22 Livorno (Florence / Pisa) , Italy

Arrive: 07:00 - Depart: 19:00

Livorno is the gateway to Tuscany, showcasing a remarkable wealth of beauty, mellowed to the golden patina by history. Step into the Etruscan stronghold of Fiesole, the Roman colony of Volterra and the Renaissance splendour of Florence, Pisa, Sienna and San Gimignano.

If the landscapes awake a sense of deja vu, it is because the great artistic masters have consistently used Tuscany as a backdrop for many of their great works, including the iconic Renaissance masters Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci, among many others.

Overnight: Seabourn's 'Seabourn Encore'

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 23 Portoferraio (Elba), Italy

Arrive: 08:00 - Depart: 18:00

Despite its small size, the island of Elba has been known since the beginning of recorded history. Called Ilva by the Ligurians and Aethalia by the Greeks, Elba passed to the Etruscans and later the Romans. It was ruled by Pisa in the Middle Ages and was a haven for Barbary pirates in the 16th century before being privately owned by the powerful Medici family.

The island's most famous resident was Napoleon Bonaparte, whose first exile from France and short reign over Elba lasted from May 1814 to February 1815. During that time, Napoleon was able to improve the island by altering street plans, building new roads, modernizing agriculture and developing the iron mines. Iron ore is still mined above the Rio Marina and then shipped from Portoferraio (Port of Iron).

With a population of just over 11,000, Portoferraio town is the largest on the island and is considered its capital. Elba is known among geologists and gem stone collectors as a treasure trove, with over 150 minerals and semiprecious stones found here. Botanists, too are impressed with the rich soil and an astonishing range of foliage and flowers aided by sun that shines almost every day of the year. The island is largely agricultural with a quiet ambience to enjoy Elba's natural charm, peaceful abundance and timeless beauty.

Amalfi and Positano are the two main towns, renowned as the most scenic and romantic in Italy, perched on rocky cliffs that plunge into the sparkling sea. Often locals with intimate knowledge of an area, its culture, and history. Their role entails providing commentary, routing the tour, and seeing that people have a good time. They are a licensed, qualified expert who supplies specific information on the history, art, architecture and culture of the city/village/attraction where they are guiding the tour. The guide meets the group at the required place and leaves it at the end of the tour; they do not travel with the group.

Tour Leader
An experienced person tasked with ensuring the smooth operation of tours, as well as providing practical support to passengers throughout the whole trip. Their role primarily includes assisting with accommodation, transportation between locations, and communication with tour guides at each stop. A tour leader may provide general guidance around a city or village and offer information on the place visited on the bus. However, they are not required to have specific art, architecture, or historical knowledge. They are not allowed to provide a guided tour or commentary of a city/village/attraction once there and, if caught doing so, can be fined.

Please note: Tour leaders/guides are not a standard inclusion in all travel offers. Tour leaders/guides will only be made available when required to enhance the experience of the destination featured.

Visas

Europe (Schengen Visa Countries)
Australian and New Zealand passport holders are visa-exempt for an accumulative total stay of 90 days per 180 calendar days in Europe.

United States of America
If travelling on an Australian or New Zealand passport, an ESTA (visa waiver) for the USA is a strict requirement when travelling to or flying through the USA. Once a USA ESTA visa waiver is issued it is valid for 2 years or until your passport expires (whichever is sooner) and will allow multiple entries into the USA. For information on ESTA eligibility or to apply, please visit: https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/esta/
Please note: Due to recent changes to USA immigration policies, TripADeal recommends all travellers visit US Customs & Border Protection.

Canada (if transiting only)
Australian and New Zealand passport holders must apply for an electronic travel authorisation (eTA) before travelling to (or transiting) Canada by air. Please start arranging your visa at least 3 weeks prior to departure to account for any delays due to consulate operating hours.

Important:
• Please start arranging your visa three weeks before departure to account for any delays due to consulate operating hours.
• Visa rules are subject to change. Please check with the nearest embassy, consulate or immigration department of the destination/s you are visiting once you receive your travel documentation to ensure you have the most up to date information.
• It is your responsibility to be travel-ready and ensure that you are aware and comply with any destination or travel requirements, including the validity of all required travel documents.
• Passengers who are not Australian citizens must also check with the respective consulate or visa agency to determine what their visa requirements are and what personal identification is required.
• It is also important to note that some areas of employment, such as journalism, government authorities and charity organisations, may have additional restrictions in applying for visas. This may, in turn, affect the type of application required.

Travel insurance

Embarking on your next trip is exciting, and while you hope the unexpected does not happen, it is best to be prepared. We strongly recommend you take out travel insurance when making your booking. Whether it’s a potential medical emergency, a flight cancellation, a delayed suitcase, or an unforeseen event, it's important to ensure you're adequately protected.
