Day 15 Fes – Midelt – Merzouga

Check out of the hotel and journey south where your adventure continues through the dramatic landscapes of the Middle Atlas. You'll also pass through a magnificent cedar forest with the possibility of seeing some wild monkeys on the way.

Head first towards Immouzer and Ifrane passing near the small mountain village of Azrou, which in the Berber tongue translates as ‘the rock’. This is the land of the fiercely independent Berbers, whose traditions and ways still dominate in their mountain strongholds far away from the cities below. The Berbers present a unique view of a way of life, heritage, music, dance and language that's been lost to the rest of North Africa.

From here, you'll drive directly to Merzouga and then reach the Erg Chebbi dunes on an approximately 460-kilometre journey. Here you'll enjoy a camel ride across the dunes with breathtaking sceneries. The sensation of being surrounded by the endless desert is incredibly calming and the silence is overwhelming.

You'll then arrive at the camp nestled between the dunes where you'll tuck into a traditional meal, listen to music and dance around the campfire.

Overnight: Merzouga Luxury Desert Camp or similar, Merzouga

Meals included: Breakfast; Dinner

Day 16 Merzouga – Dades Valley – Ouarzazate

An early wake-up is an option for those who wish to enjoy the mesmerizing sunrise before eating breakfast at camp.

You'll then return to Merzouga before continuing the approximately 370-kilometre journey, with a break at Rissani market, as you head towards Tinejdad. Here you'll visit the Oasis Berber Museum of Khorbat which opened in 2002. The museum occupies a group of three restored houses inside the Ksar El Khorbat Oujdid and has a variety of historical and cultural artefacts and items of interest.

Continue towards the marvellous valley of Tinghir and Todra Gorge, one of the most beautiful valleys in the south of Morocco. This is a lush green oasis with a long deep valley that's inhabited by the Berber population living in Kasbahs and uniquely designed villages. Take a walk in the palm groves and discover the dramatic rocky gorge before following the road of a Thousand Kasbahs where each oasis town boasts their own distinctive character. The mud and straw structures become more plentiful and more ornate as you progress along the valleys to reach the marvellous Dades Valley and then the beautiful Valley of Roses, famous for its beautiful rose gardens and adobe villages.

Lastly, you'll reach Ouarzazate which is known as ‘the door of the desert’ and the 'Berber Hollywood’.

Overnight: Oscar Hôtel par Atlas Studios or similar, Ouarzazate

Day 17 Ouarzazate – Ait Benhaddou – Marrakech

Leave Ouarzazate behind and head towards the famous UNESCO World Heritage site of Ait Benhaddou. This is a well-preserved Ksar that has been used as a backdrop for many historical films including 'Lawrence of Arabia', 'The Last Temptation of Christ', and 'Gladiator'. It was one of the important fortress strongholds on the old Salt Road Caravan Routes where traders brought slaves, gold, ivory and salt from sub-Saharan Africa to Marrakech and beyond. This experience is something memorable for many visitors.

The drive will continue through the High Atlas Mountains via Tizi N’ Tichka, the highest mountain pass in Morocco at 2260 metres. Travelling through spectacular scenery on the way, you'll twist and turn in the snow-covered mountains down towards Marrakech on an approximately 200-kilometre journey, arriving in the late afternoon.

Afterwards, you'll be transferred to Casablanca on an approximately 245-kilometre journey.

Overnight: New Hotel Piscine Wellness & Spa or similar, Casablanca

Other important information

TOUR GUIDE VS. TOUR LEADER
Tour Guide
Often locals with intimate knowledge of an area, its culture, and history. Their role entails providing commentary, routing the tour, and seeing that people have a good time. They are a licensed, qualified expert who supplies specific information on the history, art, architecture and culture of the city/village/attraction where they are guiding the tour. The guide meets the group at the required place and leaves it at the end of the tour; they do not travel with the group.

Tour Leader
An experienced person tasked with ensuring the smooth operation of tours, as well as providing practical support to passengers throughout the whole trip. Their role primarily includes assisting with accommodation, transportation between locations, and communication with tour guides at each stop. A tour leader may provide general guidance around a city or village and offer information on the place visited on the bus. However, they are not required to have specific art, architecture, or historical knowledge. They are not allowed to provide a guided tour or commentary of a city/village/attraction once there and, if caught doing so, can be fined.

Please note: Tour leaders/guides are not a standard inclusion in all travel offers. Tour leaders/guides will only be made available when required to enhance the experience of the destination featured.

Visas

Türkiye
A tourist visa is a strict requirement if travelling on an Australian Passport. You will be able to start your eVisa application process once you receive your final travel documentation 4-6 weeks prior to departure.

Morocco
A tourist visa for Morocco is not required for stays up to 90 days if travelling on an Australian passport.

Important:
• Please start arranging your visa three weeks before departure to account for any delays due to consulate operating hours.
• Visa rules are subject to change. Please check with the nearest embassy, consulate or immigration department of the destination/s you are visiting once you receive your travel documentation to ensure you have the most up to date information.
• It is your responsibility to be travel-ready and ensure that you are aware and comply with any destination or travel requirements, including the validity of all required travel documents.
• Passengers who are not Australian citizens must also check with the respective consulate or visa agency to determine what their visa requirements are and what personal identification is required.
• It is also important to note that some areas of employment, such as journalism, government authorities and charity organisations, may have additional restrictions in applying for visas. This may, in turn, affect the type of application required.

Travel insurance

Embarking on your next trip is exciting, and while you hope the unexpected does not happen, it is best to be prepared. We strongly recommend you take out travel insurance when making your booking. Whether it’s a potential medical emergency, a flight cancellation, a delayed suitcase, or an unforeseen event, it's important to ensure you're adequately protected.
