Upon arrival, please make your own way to your accommodation for the night.

Anchorage is packed with places to explore and enjoy from restaurants and galleries to sports venues and shops. If you can, it's worth extending your time here to visit the Anchorage Museum and the Native Heritage Center for a taste of local culture (charges apply).

There’s so much you could do in Anchorage like visiting the flowering Town Square Park or going salmon fishing in Ship Creek. Animal lovers will love the incredible Denali National Park, home to North America’s highest peak which could give you a chance to see more of the Alaskan wildlife you'll experience on your adventures.

Overnight: Hilton Anchorage Hotel or similar, Anchorage

Meals included: In-Flight

Day 2 Seward, Alaska, USA - Begin 12-night Expedition Cruise of Alaska

After breakfast you’ll enjoy a scenic drive to Seward. The route goes through the Kenai Peninsula, considered by Alaskans and visitors alike to be some of the world’s most awe-inspiring backcountry scenery. The transfer will take you through this stunning scenery as you wind your way to the Pacific coast where your expedition ship, MS Roald Amundsen awaits.

Along the way, visit the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center in Portage Valley surrounded by stunning mountains, Alpine Glaciers, the Turnagain Arm Inlet, and Alaska’s beautiful wildlife.

Your embarkation point, Seward, is the only deep-water ice-free port with road, rail and air connections to Alaska’s interior. Once you board MS Roald Amundsen, locate your cabin and explore this spacious and comfortable expedition ship which will be your home for almost two weeks.

Overnight: Hurtigruten Expeditions 'MS Roald Amundsen'

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 3 College Fjord, Alaska, USA

Today visit College Fjord, which features five tidewater glaciers and five valley glaciers, as well as a dozen other types.

The 1899 Harriman expedition team, which charted the fjord, named the glaciers after their alma maters, including Vassar, Harvard and Yale. Princeton is missing, apparently a deliberate snub.

You’ll get as close to the glaciers as is safely possible, taking small expedition boats into the fjord or even exploring by kayak if conditions permit. From the water, you might catch sight of humpback whales, Bald Eagles, otters and sea lions, all of which inhabit this icy wilderness.

Overnight: Hurtigruten Expeditions 'MS Roald Amundsen'

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 4 Icy Bay, Alaska, USA

Today is an exploration day in Icy Bay. Three glaciers – Guyot, Yahtse and Tyndall – regularly calve into this bay. If conditions allow, you’ll explore in small expedition boats or by kayak, immersing you in the remarkable beauty of this icy landscape.

Wildlife abounds in the Gulf of Alaska, offering unrivalled photography opportunities. Humpback whales, orcas, Stellar sea lions, sea otters and harbour seals lazing on floating chunks of ice are often seen in these waters.

Overnight: Hurtigruten Expeditions 'MS Roald Amundsen'

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 5 William Henry Bay, Alaska, USA

In the morning you'll pass by Point Adolphus, located on the northern tip of Chichagof Island across from Glacier Bay National Park. The nutrient-rich waters are known for attracting humpback whales and other marine life, so be sure to get out on deck and have your camera ready.

William Henry Bay lies south of Haines at the edge of the Chilkat Range mountains and is home to brown bears, black bears and moose. Under the watchful eye of an expert local guide, you'll drop anchor here and explore the shores lined with old-growth forest.

Overnight: Hurtigruten Expeditions 'MS Roald Amundsen'

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 6 Haines, Alaska, USA

Near the head of the Lynn Canal lies the frontier town of Haines, which was originally home to the Chilkat Tlingit people. They are renowned for their weaving skills, with mountain goat fur and cedar bark woven into intricate designs, and here, you’ll see excellent examples of their work.

Haines has a flourishing art scene, with galleries and workshops showcasing totem carvings, silverwork and sculptures. Taking home some Alaskan arts and crafts is a great way to support local creators. The beautiful landscapes here are also ideal for hiking and wildlife spotting.

Overnight: Hurtigruten Expeditions 'MS Roald Amundsen'

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 7 Tracy Arm or Endicott Arm

Holkham Bay is home to two beautiful fjords – Tracy Arm and Endicott Arm. Your Captain will decide which offers better exploration options on the day.

At the end of each fjord, fresh icebergs calve from the glaciers against a stunning backdrop of rocky cliffs. This area is a breeding ground for harbour seals, who are often seen on the floating ice. You might also see whales, bears and mountain goats.

Overnight: Hurtigruten Expeditions 'MS Roald Amundsen'

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 8 Sitka, Alaska, USA

Surrounded by Tongass National Forest, Sitka is only accessible by sea or air. Get out on deck for stunning views of the Sisters Mountains and Mount Edgecumbe volcano.

Inhabited by the Tlingit people for 10,000 years, the town was settled by Russian explorers around the turn of the 19th century before being sold to the United States after Russia lost the Crimean War. Today, Sitka has roots in all three cultures.

A visit to the Russian Orthodox Cathedral and Russian Bishop's House is recommended (charges may apply). Admire ornate Haida and Tlingit totem poles at Sitka National Historical Park and enjoy a walking trail through the forest to the ocean.

Overnight: Hurtigruten Expeditions 'MS Roald Amundsen'

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 9 Southeast Alaska

Explore Alaska in true expedition style on today’s exploration day in this magical corner of the Inside Passage.

Conditions permitting, you may take to the water in small expedition boats, and seek out secluded coves, iceberg-filled bays, and thickly forested shorelines. Try and catch a glimpse of some of Alaska’s most iconic wildlife, including Bald Eagles, Pigeon Guillemots, otters, whales and even bears, if luck is on your side.

Overnight: Hurtigruten Expeditions 'MS Roald Amundsen'

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 10 Wrangell (Petroglyph Beach)

Continue cruising the Alaskan islands towards Wrangell. Only a mile out of town, Petroglyph Beach is where you'll see ancient rock carvings among the sand.

Visit the local museum to learn more about Wrangell's fascinating past (charges may apply). Now part of the United States, it was once governed by Britain, Russia and the Tlingit people. Cross to Shakes Island, where the Chief Shakes Tribal House and totem poles tell the story of the Indigenous Tlingit people.

Hikers will enjoy the nature trails, surrounded by alluring scenery at the mouth of Stikine River, and the foot of Mount Dewey at the edge of the rainforest.

Overnight: Hurtigruten Expeditions 'MS Roald Amundsen'

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 11 Misty Fjords, Alaska, USA

Part of the Tongass National Forest, Misty Fjords is a pristine wilderness of evergreens, waterfalls and snow-capped peaks. The revered naturalist writer John Muir described the area as one of the most beautiful places he’d ever seen.

Weather permitting, you'll join the Expedition Team to tour Misty Fjords in small expedition boats or take kayaks out.

Misty Fjords is rich in wildlife. You’ll scan for mountain goats, bears and moose as you explore. The waters are home to Pacific salmon, otters, sea lions, harbour seals, orcas and Dall’s porpoises. Skywards, you might spot herons and Bald Eagles.

Overnight: Hurtigruten Expeditions 'MS Roald Amundsen'

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 12 Inside Passage, Canada

The Inside Passage coastal route takes you through the great North American Pacific Fjordland, a protected stretch of water approximately 1500 kilometres long. Unlike other cruises that pass through at night, you’ll be able to view the sublime scenery in all its glory during the day.

Hurtigruten's smaller expedition ship allows you to reach areas that larger vessels can’t, meaning you’ll get to explore lesser-travelled channels with breathtaking scenery. Keep your cameras and binoculars at the ready to catch sight of dolphins, porpoises, orcas and humpback whales.

Overnight: Hurtigruten Expeditions 'MS Roald Amundsen'

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 13 Alert Bay, Canada

Arrive at Alert Bay, a scenic village on Cormorant Island, north of Vancouver Island. Here we'll have the opportunity to meet and learn from the Kwakwaka’wakw First Nations community – to be welcomed by them is a real privilege.

At the U'mista Cultural Center, you'll see elaborate totem poles, paintings, carvings, ceremonial masks and other meaningful artefacts.

The island’s sheltered waters attract a huge array of wildlife – the Yellow-billed Loon, with its distinctive speckled back, is a particular highlight. Keep an eye out for orcas and humpback whales close to shore.

Overnight: Hurtigruten Expeditions 'MS Roald Amundsen'

Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 14 Disembark Vancouver, Canada

Your expedition cruise ends in the beautiful city of Vancouver at the foot of the Rockies.

After disembarkation, please make your own way to your hotel, then enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure.

You could visit Gastown, the city's oldest neighbourhood, and climb Vancouver Lookout for a citywide panorama overlooking neon-lit Granville Street, West End beaches and towering cedars of Stanley Park. Vancouver has a flavour all its own so why not dine out in Chinatown, at Punjabi Market or at Little Italy as you soak up the city's buzzing atmosphere?

On today's journey, you will see dramatic changes in scenery, from the lush green fields of the Fraser Valley, through forests and winding river canyons surrounded by the peaks of the Coast and Cascade Mountains, to the desert-like landscapes of the BC interior.

Today's highlights include the rushing waters of Hell's Gate in the Fraser Canyon and the steep slopes and rock sheds along the Thompson River.

You will arrive in Kamloops in the evening, where you will be transferred to your overnight accommodation.

Other important information

TOUR GUIDE VS. TOUR LEADER
Tour Guide:
Often locals with intimate knowledge of an area, its culture, and history. Their role entails providing commentary, routing the tour, and seeing that people have a good time. They are a licensed, qualified expert who supplies specific information on the history, art, architecture and culture of the city/village/attraction where they are guiding the tour. The guide meets the group at the required place and leaves it at the end of the tour; they do not travel with the group.

Tour Leader:
An experienced person tasked with ensuring the smooth operation of tours, as well as providing practical support to passengers throughout the whole trip. Their role primarily includes assisting with accommodation, transportation between locations, and communication with tour guides at each stop. A tour leader may provide general guidance around a city or village and offer information on the place visited on the bus. However, they are not required to have specific art, architecture, or historical knowledge. They are not allowed to provide a guided tour or commentary of a city/village/attraction once there and, if caught doing so, can be fined.

Please note: Tour leaders/guides are not a standard inclusion in all travel offers. Tour leaders/guides will only be made available when required to enhance the experience of the destination featured.

During spring in the Canadian Rockies, there's a mix of summery warmth on sunny days alongside lingering snow in both the valleys and the mountains. The park gradually stirs from its winter slumber, marked by the emergence of bears from hibernation. By June, the lakes start their yearly thaw, transforming Moraine Lake and Lake Louise into their renowned azure shades. Temperatures typically reach an average high of 10°C during this season.

Visas

United States
If travelling on an Australian passport, an ESTA (visa waiver) for the USA is a strict requirement when travelling to or flying through the USA. Once a USA ESTA visa waiver is issued it is valid for 2 years or until your passport expires (whichever is sooner) and will allow multiple entries into the USA. For information on ESTA eligibility or to apply, please visit: https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/esta/
Please note: Due to recent changes to USA immigration policies, TripADeal recommends all travellers visit US Customs & Border Protection.

Canada
Australian and New Zealand passport holders must apply for an electronic travel authorisation (eTA) before travelling to Canada by air. Please start arranging your visa at least 3 weeks prior to departure to account for any delays due to consulate operating hours.

Important:
• Please start arranging your visa three weeks before departure to account for any delays due to consulate operating hours.
• Visa rules are subject to change. Please check with the nearest embassy, consulate or immigration department of the destination/s you are visiting once you receive your travel documentation to ensure you have the most up to date information.
• It is your responsibility to be travel-ready and ensure that you are aware and comply with any destination or travel requirements, including the validity of all required travel documents.
• Passengers who are not Australian citizens must also check with the respective consulate or visa agency to determine what their visa requirements are and what personal identification is required.
• It is also important to note that some areas of employment, such as journalism, government authorities and charity organisations, may have additional restrictions in applying for visas. This may, in turn, affect the type of application required.

Travel insurance

Embarking on your next trip is exciting, and while you hope the unexpected does not happen, it is best to be prepared. We strongly recommend you take out travel insurance when making your booking. Whether it’s a potential medical emergency, a flight cancellation, a delayed suitcase, or an unforeseen event, it's important to ensure you're adequately protected.
