Overview

With more than 5,000 years of recorded history, China offers an endless list of spectacular destinations to discover and this fantastic 11-day package features some of the most awe-inspiring natural and ancient wonders, offering an experience that goes beyond other tours.

Your experience starts in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province and the ‘Hometown of Giant Panda'. Visit Kuanzhai Alley and step back in time to an era of emperors and dynasties. Situated in downtown Chengdu city, Kuanzhai Alley (宽窄巷子) features buildings in the ancient Qing style of quadrangle courtyard, now populated with fashionable bars and restaurants, creating an exhilarating combination of traditional Chinese culture and modern life. Cruise to visit the Leshan Giant Buddha, the world’s largest cliff rock-carved Maitreya Buddha statue in the world. A UNESCO Natural & Cultural Heritage Site, the exceptional 71-metre-tall Leshan Giant Buddha is treasured for its magnificent carving and stunning natural surroundings. Travel onwards to Emeishan City, located in the shadow of Mount Emei (Emeishan), the highest of the country's four sacred Buddhist mountains at 3099 metres. Bao Guo Temple, the largest temple at Emei Mountain, is the doorway to the mountain as well as the centre of Buddhist activity on the sacred site.

The natural wonder continues at Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, where you will enter a surreal world whose karst peaks inspired the landscapes of the 2000 movie "Avatar". Zhangjiajie has been called “a miniature of fairyland”, thanks to its serene wildness, mystery, beauty and elegance. At the bottom of the mountains, walk along the Golden Whip Stream (Jinbianxi), or Golden Whip Brook. The trail along the stream is the most stunning hiking trail in Wulingyuan. Jump on a high-speed rail to travel from Zhangjiajie to Guilin, in the northeast of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Guilin city is world-famous for the astonishing beauty of its natural surroundings. The area features mountains rising in thousands of postures out of the clear Li River, while nearby caves sit quietly, filled with stunning stalactites and stalagmites. Numerous local attractions include the beautiful and serene Li and Yulong rivers, Chuanshan Park on the city’s east bank and the Cockfighting Hills, formed by Chuanshan Hill and Pheasant Hill.

This incredible package includes return international full-service flights, a one-way internal flight from Chengdu to Changsa, a one-way high-speed train journey from Zhangjiajie to Guilin, 8 nights of 4-star hotel accommodation and daily breakfast. So, what are you waiting for?

Welcome to Chengdu! This vibrant and culturally-rich city is located in the heart of Sichuan Province, China. Known as the 'Land of Abundance', Chengdu offers a unique blend of history, cuisine, and natural beauty that makes it a must-visit destination for tourists.

Upon arrival in Chengdu this morning, you will be met at the airport, and head out on an introductory tour of Chengdu. First visit Kuanzhai Alley, one of Chengdu’s three historic-conservation districts. Constructed in 1718 during the early years of the Qing Dynasty, this charming pedestrian thoroughfare is home to an eclectic mix of classic Sichuan architecture, modern cafes and smart boutiques. As you explore, listen to commentary from your guide about the district's history and design, and witness how some of the city’s old establishments — local restaurants, traditional teahouses, Chinese calligraphy demonstrations — sit alongside the new. Then visit Heming Teahouse. Nestled in the People's Park, it has always been a popular destination for both locals and visitors who are looking for a relaxing cup of tea or a unique cultural experience. The ambiance of Heming Teahouse is peaceful and serene, providing a respite from the hustle and bustle of the city. The teahouse is decorated in a traditional Chinese style, with wooden tables and bamboo chairs adding to the atmosphere.

It is carved out of a cliff face of Cretaceous red bed sandstone that lies at the confluence of the Min River and Dadu River, in the southern part of Sichuan Province.

Day 5 Changsha – Zhangjiajie

Were you impressed by the Hallelujah Mountains in the film Avatar? The real ones are in Zhangjiajie. There are 243 peaks and more than 3,000 pinnacles and spires in the national park. Scenes from the film come to mind when the peaks are caught in the right light, or when the early morning mountain mist rolls in around them. In 1982, Zhangjiajie National Forest Park became China's first National Forest Park.

This morning, drive to Zhangjiajie and take a Ten-Li Gallery Monorail Train (one-way) to see one of the most famous attractions in the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park – Ten-Li natural Gallery. There are dense woods, fragrant flowers and grotesque rocks that make the valley seem like a natural art gallery. Over 200 rocks vividly mimic human and animal profiles on both sides of the walking path, extending deep into the valley. Many natural pictures formed on the precipices seem like paintings hanging on the cliffs.

Afterwards, visit Gold Whip Stream, a brook at the foot of the towering mountains. The 400-metre-high cliff by Gold Whip Stream is spectacular. One thing to watch out for is the wild monkeys along the stream.

Finish the day at your hotel in Wulingyuan for an evening at leisure.

Other important information

TOUR GUIDE VS. TOUR LEADER
Tour Guide
Often locals with intimate knowledge of an area, its culture, and history. Their role entails providing commentary, routing the tour, and seeing that people have a good time. They are a licensed, qualified expert who supplies specific information on the history, art, architecture and culture of the city/village/attraction where they are guiding the tour. The guide meets the group at the required place and leaves it at the end of the tour; they do not travel with the group.

Tour Leader
An experienced person tasked with ensuring the smooth operation of tours, as well as providing practical support to passengers throughout the whole trip. Their role primarily includes assisting with accommodation, transportation between locations, and communication with tour guides at each stop. A tour leader may provide general guidance around a city or village and offer information on the place visited on the bus. However, they are not required to have specific art, architecture, or historical knowledge. They are not allowed to provide a guided tour or commentary of a city/village/attraction once there and, if caught doing so, can be fined.
Please note: Tour leaders/guides are not a standard inclusion in all travel offers. Tour leaders/guides will only be made available when required to enhance the experience of the destination featured.

Supplier Fees
In the event the tour package you have purchased is unable to proceed, and/or a travel Supplier is unable to fulfil the tour due to external circumstances (Limitation of Liability e.g. a Force Majeure event), there may be a fee or amount of money that is withheld by our Suppliers and is unrecoverable. This may be due to non-refundable airline tickets, cancellation penalties with cruise cabins or unrecoverable payments with our land/accommodation partners. If refunds are not available from Suppliers, we will endeavour to obtain a travel credit on the best terms available and communicate these outcomes to you. In the event we are unable to obtain a refund or travel service credit, or part thereof, this cost is passed on to the customer as a Supplier Fee.
