The Serafino story started in 1964, when Steve (Serafino) Maglieri arrived in Australia from Italy as a passionate teenager full of dreams. Today Steve’s daughter, Maria Maglieri is at the helm of Serafino Wine’s 300 acres of prime McLaren Vale vineyards.

You’ll have the remainder of the day at leisure to explore. We suggest visiting the iconic d’Arenberg Cube, which is a short 4.5-kilometre ride from Serafino.

Day 5 Barossa Free Day

You will have today at your own leisure to explore the beautiful Barossa. We recommend exploring Barossa’s premium food, wine and rich heritage on the quality sealed cycling trail from Angaston to Gawler via the three main townships of Nuriootpa, Tanunda and Lyndoch.

The trail is a fantastic way to explore the region, some of the highlights include:
• Ride the trail to Angaston and experience Yalumba, Australia's most historic family-owned winery for six generations, which was established in 1849. This magnificent estate is located near the town of Angaston in Eden Valley in the Barossa region. Highly recommended!
• An icon of the Barossa, the Chateau Tanunda, which was established in 1890.
• Peter Lehmann Wines, a fifth-generation Barossan who established the winery in 1979.

For those wanting to get off the trail, you can head to the Seppeltsfield Barossa Historic Winery Estate, established in 1851. Often regarded as one of Australia’s most successful wine dynasties, the Seppelt family maintained ownership of their wine interest until 1985. Now owned by viticulturist and winemaker Warren Randall, who worked for the Seppelt family during the 1980s, and is passionate to continue the Seppelt family legacy.

Another recommended stop would be at Maggie Beer’s Farm Shop, one of Australia’s most well-known culinary icons. Inspired by the Barossa Valley’s abundance of fresh produce, Maggie is a respected mentor to many in the area and is celebrated for her entrepreneurial skills and natural leadership abilities in the gourmet food arena.

Other important information

TOUR GUIDE VS. TOUR LEADER
Tour Guide
Often locals with intimate knowledge of an area, its culture, and history. Their role entails providing commentary, routing the tour, and seeing that people have a good time. They are a licensed, qualified expert who supplies specific information on the history, art, architecture and culture of the city/village/attraction where they are guiding the tour. The guide meets the group at the required place and leaves it at the end of the tour; they do not travel with the group.

Tour Leader
An experienced person tasked with ensuring the smooth operation of tours, as well as providing practical support to passengers throughout the whole trip. Their role primarily includes assisting with accommodation, transportation between locations, and communication with tour guides at each stop. A tour leader may provide general guidance around a city or village and offer information on the place visited on the bus. However, they are not required to have specific art, architecture, or historical knowledge. They are not allowed to provide a guided tour or commentary of a city/village/attraction once there and, if caught doing so, can be fined.
Please note: Tour leaders/guides are not a standard inclusion in all travel offers. Tour leaders/guides will only be made available when required to enhance the experience of the destination featured.

CLIMATE & AVERAGE TEMPERATURES
Adelaide Hills
Adelaide Hills’ cool climate means vibrant whites are the lifeblood of the region with punchy expressions of sauvignon blanc and fine restrained chardonnay being the two traditional white varieties. However, with its unique topography that creates several microclimates, the region is also perfect for pinot gris and pinot grigio. Summer temperatures can range between highs of 23-26 degrees Celsius and lows of 12-14 degrees Celsius, winter temperatures can range between highs of 12-13 degrees Celsius and lows of 6-7 degrees Celsius.

Barossa Valley
The Barossa Valley is arguably Australia’s most famous wine region. Classified as warm climate, the Barossa provides excellent conditions for full-bodied wines with shiraz, cabernet sauvignon and grenache dominating the red plantings. Summer temperatures can range between highs of 27-30 degrees Celsius and lows of 13-15 degrees Celsius, winter temperatures can range between highs of 14-15 degrees Celsius and lows of around 5 degrees Celsius.

McLaren Vale
McLaren Vale is one of the most geologically diverse wine regions in the world with unique interactions between geology, soils, elevation, slope, aspect, rainfall, distance from the coast and macro-climatic differences all contributing factors. Summer temperatures can range between highs of 27-28 degrees Celsius and lows of 15-17 degrees Celsius, winter temperatures can range between highs of 15-16 degrees Celsius and lows of around 9 degrees Celsius.
