Today you'll depart from Australia for Delhi, India. Upon arrival, you'll be met by a representative at the airport who will transfer you to the hotel. Whilst room keys and check-in are organised, you will receive your welcome folder and be briefed on the tour programme.

As the capital of India, Delhi is a major gateway city for international visitors. It's a fascinating metropolis offering an intriguing mix of ancient sites and modern wonders, plus it also serves as the headquarters of Indian politics. Many of the heads of the Indian government and other political parties reside in the city, including the Prime Minister and President of India.

Please note: Due to flight scheduling and availability, some departures may occur on Day 0. Affected customers must be at the airport the night before. Flight times will be indicated on your final documents at least 6 weeks prior to departure.

Overnight: Delhi (Standard or Premium Hotel option)

Meals included: None

Day 2 Delhi City Tour

After breakfast, you'll enjoy a city tour of old and new Delhi. The tour will take you to Raj Ghat where Mahatma Gandhi was cremated and the Red Fort which was made famous by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. You'll stop by Jama Masjid, the largest mosque in India with three gateways, four angle towers and two minarets that are constructed of alternating vertical strips of red sandstone and white marble. You'll then enjoy a rickshaw tour through Chandni Chowk, a colourful shopping bazaar in Old Delhi.

Your tour continues to Laxminarayan Temple, a site dedicated to Lakshmi who is the goddess of prosperity and good fortune, and the 42-metre India Gate war memorial. Visit Rashtrapati Bhawan, the palace-like building home to the President of India, as well as the beautiful Lotus Temple which is also known as the Bahai Temple of Worship where adherents of any faith can visit, pray or meditate.

Overnight: Delhi (Standard or Premium Hotel option)

Meals included: Breakfast

Day 3 Delhi - Jaipur

Following breakfast this morning, you'll travel approximately 256 kilometres to Jaipur, the picturesque capital of Rajasthan. Together with Agra and Delhi, the city of Jaipur forms part of the ‘Golden Triangle’ of India’s tourist circuit.

Jaipur offers timeless appeal and is instantly recognisable for its pink-washed buildings, a colour associated with hospitality in Rajput culture. Royalty still lives in the grandeur of Jaipur's palaces, where fighting for the honour of the clan has never been a need but a way of life and where treating guests as gods has been a tradition from time immemorial. The beautifully laid out gardens and parks, attractive monuments and heritage hotels that were once the residence of Maharajas are all worth a look.

Overnight: Jaipur (Standard or Premium Hotel option)

Meals included: Breakfast; Dinner

Day 4 Jaipur City Tour

Today you'll enjoy a full-day sightseeing tour of Jaipur. Your day begins with a morning excursion to the impressive Amber Fort, the old fort of the Kachwaha clan of Amber. The fort itself is a beautiful sight to behold with white marble and red sandstone architecture and its clear reflection on Maota Lake.

In the afternoon, take part in a city tour visiting the City Palace, a former royal residence built in a blend of the Rajasthani and Mughal styles. You will also see Jantar Mantar, the largest of the five observatories built by Sawai Jai Singh, and Hawa Mahal which is also known as the Palace of Winds. This colourful palace was constructed for the royal ladies to watch royal processions without being seen. Afterwards, you'll visit Lakshmi Narayan Temple before enjoying a sari and turban tying demonstration.

Overnight: Jaipur (Standard or Premium Hotel option)

Meals included: Breakfast

Day 5 Jaipur - Agra & Taj Mahal

After breakfast, you'll depart on an approximately 245-kilometre day to Agra. On the way, you'll visit Chand Baori stepwell which is believed to have a religious connection to the nearby Harshat Mata temple.

Agra is the quintessential Mughal City where the world marvels the Taj Mahal, one of the Wonders of the World and the epitome of love, beauty and sacrifice. So overwhelming is the architectural triumph that Agra has been immortalised as the City of the Taj. As you walk down the narrow bustling streets, you cannot help but wonder if the man contentedly smoking a hookah is a direct descendent of some bygone Mughal.

After you have settled into the hotel, enjoy a city tour visiting the Taj Mahal which was built by the Moghul Emperor Shah Jahan in 1630 for his queen Mumtaz Mahal to enshrine her mortal remains. Besides the Taj, the Agra Fort makes an interesting sight.

Overnight: Agra (Standard or Premium Hotel option)

Meals included: Breakfast

Day 6 Agra - Delhi - Varanasi

Early risers can take the opportunity to head to the Taj Mahal and experience the monument just after sunrise (not included), then return to the hotel for breakfast.

Afterwards, you'll depart for Delhi on an approximately 205-kilometre travel day. Upon arrival, you'll be transferred to the airport for your flight to Varanasi.

Varanasi, situated along the west bank of the Ganges in the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, is often called Benaras by the British. It's an important pilgrimage centre for the Hindus and the city finds mention in the great epics of Mahabharata and Ramayana. It was a flourishing trade centre when Buddha came to Sarnath to preach his first sermon in 500 BC. The renowned American novelist Mark Twain once wrote that “Benaras is older than history, older than tradition, older even than legend and looks twice as old as all of them put together”.

Right from ancient times, Varanasi has stood as a symbol of Hindu renaissance and preserved the rituals and traditions of Hindu philosophy. Down the ages, pilgrims from distant lands have come to Varanasi in search of divine blessings. In the evening, you can witness the glittering Aarti ceremony at the Ganges.

Overnight: Varanasi (Standard or Premium Hotel option)

Meals included: Breakfast

Day 7 Ganges Boat Cruise & Sarnath City Tour

Today you'll enjoy an early morning boat cruise on the river Ganges. The banks of the Ganges are considered to be sacred by the Hindus and is the centre of much of the religious activity that occurs in the city. The ghats built along the banks of the river for such religious activity also form a major source of attraction here. Some of the other interesting places you will see on the panoramic city tour are Alamgir Mosque, Durga Temple, Vishwanath Temple, Bharat Mata Temple, Tulsi Manas Temple, Banaras Hindu University and the Archaeological Museum.

In the afternoon, you'll take an excursion to the city of Sarnath, just 10 kilometres from Varanasi. Sarnath is a highly revered Buddhist pilgrimage centre as it's believed that after reaching enlightenment at Bodh Gaya, Lord Buddha preached his first sermon here. The great Dhamek Stupa and several other structures stand testimony to the importance the place enjoyed at that time. It's said that the Chaukhandi Stupa is the place where, during his first visit to Sarnath, Lord Buddha met his first five disciples.

The area is a treasure trove of archaeological findings such as Dharmarajika Stupa and Mulagandha Kuti Vihar. The smooth glistening pillar established by Emperor Ashoka in 273-232 B.C. marks the foundation of the Buddhist Sangha and the Lion Capital atop this pillar is now India’s National Emblem. You'll also have the opportunity to visit the Pillars of Ashoka and a Tibetan Temple.

Overnight: Varanasi (Standard or Premium Hotel option)

Meals included: Breakfast

You'll also see endangered Himalayan wolves and red pandas on a visit to the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park. Supplier Fees
In the event the Travel Offer you have purchased is unable to proceed, and/or a travel Supplier is unable to fulfil the Travel Offer due to external circumstances (Limitation of Liability e.g. a Force Majeure event), there may be a fee or amount of money that is withheld by our Suppliers and is unrecoverable. This may be due to non-refundable airline tickets, cancellation penalties with cruise cabins or unrecoverable payments with our land/accommodation partners. TripADeal has committed to these costs as your Agent and will endeavour to recover all funds committed and/or paid for your Travel Offer, but this may not be possible in all circumstances. If refunds are not available from Suppliers, we will endeavour to obtain a travel credit on the best terms available and communicate these outcomes to you. In the event, TripADeal is unable to obtain a refund or travel service credit, or part thereof, this cost is passed on to the customer as a Supplier Fee. This fee is not revenue-raising and is paid to or withheld by our suppliers when recovering payments.
